Anybody taken both Levothyroxine and Carbimazole at the same time? How’s it made you feel? Pros/cons, any other information please? I don’t have recent blood tests at the moment!
Thanks

lots of posts discussing “block and replace “
block with Carbimazole
Replace with levothyroxine
hi. I tried B&R. I wasn’t that successful. Wildly high t3 and imbalanced with t3 dominance made my t4 go under the range and I went with it psychologically. Sorry
Hi I am taking 40mg carbimazole and 100mg levothyroxine it’s called block and replace and I’ve been taking both for the past 10 months. I haven’t had any problems with either, no side effects whatsoever and happy to be on them as I felt absolutely dreadful when I was first diagnosed with Graves’ disease. I’m waiting for my blood test results back and might have to come off both which is a bit of a worry and scary as I’ve never felt so well being on them. I know everyone is different but I’m so grateful for block and replace it’s definitely worked for me.
hi Florah, I was diagnosed with Graves in February 2021. I was ok for two months as thyroid levels started to drop and after that I started to feel low thyroid symptoms so Endo suggested bringing in some thyroxine 50mcg. It was agreed from the start that I would be treated like this with Bock & Replace regime. I did very well on this treatment but there were times where I felt awful and so had to increase Levothyroxine. I carried on like this for 18 months even though Endo originally was only going to treat me for 12 months. After 18 months I was still on 20mg carbimazole but I couldn’t quite get the Levothyroxine right and felt undermedicated so decided I’d had enough and stopped both. That’s the normal way to finish treatment apparently although I was a bit worried about stopping abruptly. I also had Covid the week I stopped but got through that without a problem. I’ve not taken anything since October 2022 and my thyroid levels have slowly come back to normal from being low at the end of treatment but I was adamant I needed to take thyroxine at this time because levels were slow to change and I was suffering with hypo symptoms TSH was 5.27, T4 bottom of the range. Endo refused so I had to sit it out. Thyroid levels did get better over time and are now more in the normal range but I still had palpitations so I now take a low dose beta blocker which has helped. At some point I will try and come off the beta blockers. Good luck with your treatment and please post here if you have any problems/questions. I found all the knowledgeable comments on this forum very helpful when it came to speaking with my Endocrinologist.
You will see from my bio I was eventually put on Block and Replace to stop my Graves making me swing between hyper an hypo. I have been on it about 7 years now and feel well. I started on 10mg. Carb and 50 mcg. Levo. My GP does a full thyroid panel twice a year and I occasionally need a small dose adjustment to keep my fT3 at least half way in range as this is where I feel best. I always want to be on the lowest effective dose which at the moment is 5mg. Carb. and 100mcg. Levo.
Hey there again :
a couple of months ago you were thinking about having a thyroidectomy :
I'm glad you have been offered an alternative option as living without a thyroid is not as ' easy ' it it may have been described to you.
I'm not sure if I sent you these before - apologies if i did :

I'm taking them at the same time as initially, I have recieved a bigger dose of carbimazole and I became hypo becaus of this. At the moment, I'm taking 10mg of carbimazole and 75mg of tyroxine. I mainly feel good, but I sometimes get dizzy/lightheaded, especially after I have my doses changed. It does its job very well, though.
Hello there, I have graves and also tried carbimazole only before being put on block and replace, it did work well for me but due to other circumstances I decided to have a thyroidectomy last June.If you would like to read my story just click on the picture at the side of my name and there it is.Everyone is different and what suits one person isn't necessarily right for someone else.I've tried to give everything a go before making my decision.I would say try it and the best of luck.
