Hello πŸ‘‹ Everyone ☺️

Posting on behalf of my partner .

John is 64 yrs and is currently suffering from parathyroid issues with raised calcium - see my previous posts for further information .

He has lost his libido and is tired / fatigued and muscle loss .

I’ve attached his recent bloods and I’m no expert but his testosterone seems low ? Would he benefit from testosterone for energy levels ?

Thank you so much for any feedback / responses πŸ•ŠοΈ

What’s happening about parathyroid investigation

Folate was deficient

Has he finished folic acid supplements

Has he retested

Have you done full iron and ferritin tested

Never supplement iron without doing full iron panel test for anaemia first

It’s possible to have low ferritin but high iron

Test early morning, only water to drink between waking and test. Avoid high iron rich dinner night before test

Stop iron supplements 5-7 days before testing

Medichecks iron panel test

Hello πŸ‘‹ SlowDragon ,

Thank you very much for your prompt response πŸ™

John is having telephone consultation with GP tomorrow morning . We are just writing notes in readiness .

NHS have refused to carry out a test for bone density despite GP referral - absolutely awful 😞

If NHS are simply going to watch and wait we are going to consider private as he has lost so much muscle - the last thing he wants is a break / osteoporosis !

He has now finished folic acid 5mg so will ask GP for blood retest - he is probably due calcium level test anyway and see what parathyroid is doing .

After lots of research we held of Vitamin D because of faulty parathyroid gland the two just work against each other πŸ™ˆ

No iron testing yet but will explore .

Johns testosterone levels are just over 12 so is he bottom of range ? Thank you for Medichecks link - I think I have interpreted it correctly ?

Thank you πŸ•ŠοΈ

If you are also looking into finding some good information about parathyroidism, check out the Norman Parathyroid Center. They are located in Tampa Florida and specialize in parathyroid disease. I had hyperparathyroidism in 2016. I went to their Center and had two benign parathyroid tumors removed.

I’m based in UK πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ though although Florida would be lovely for a visit 🀣πŸ₯°

Nonetheless, that site has a lot of accessible information. It isn't just a glorified advert.

Sallie is very active on social media (e.g. twitter) and very helpful:
