Tests to take prior to endo appointment

Hello

I have a first appointment with an endocrinologist in 12 days. I've written asking what tests he would like me to take beforehand so as to save time and money at our first meeting. No reply, unfortunately.

Clearly, I should be getting MSH, FT3, FT4 and TPO would be required. Any others?

Key thyroid vitamins (ferritin, folate, B12 and vit D) are also important. You are right to have these done prior to the appointment as a) tests invariably cost more in private hospital b) your first appointment can be based on the results you provide.

It’s also good to write down a list of key questions/ ongoing symptoms.

Thank you for your guidance, Buddy195. I will get my vitamins checked as you suggest. Regards

I think TSH would be better than MSH. :)

Tg antibodies. These can be high even if TPOab are low. The NHS won't test for them, so best to do it yourself.

Oops! Yes TSH would be better! Thank you for your advice re antibodies. Is that in addition to TPO, or instead of? Regards.

OK. Yes, I've ordered that from Medichecks. One thing thar worries me is my morning aymptoms of aniety and depression are very severe when I wake. These are eased by Lorazepam and Methyphenidate and normally reach a "bearable" state in about two hours. As I'm sure you know, these thyroid tests should be taken by 10am, before any meds or vits are taken for the day and after any short term illnesses have eased. I'm certain that my morning issues will not have eased by 10am without drugs.

I have written to Medichecks, but do you have a view on this?

Well, actually, the blood draw should be before 9am. But I don't think having anxiety and depression in the morning will affect blood test results. By 'short-term illnesses' one means infections, like a cold. I don't know wanything about Lorazepam or Methyphenidate, but I'm pretty sure it would be better to take the blood before taking the pills.
