RAI thyroid hyperthyroidism relapse
Hello BlueLike and welcome to the forum:
I have read on here of some people finding their thyroid has regrown after a thyroidectomy.
I have also read that some people are given a second dose of RAI if the first dose doesn't work.
I too have had RAI for Graves Disease back in 2005 - can you give more details about what you are dealing with and when was the RAI and what treatment have you been given since ?
Are you now on T4 - Levothyroxine every day - the symptoms of over and under medication may be the cause of your current issues - do you have any blood test results and ranges you can share here with forum members so we can try and understand better what is going on ?
Hi pennyannie. I had RAI in 2009. I am currently taking Armour Thyroid and Cytomel combo. I feel tired, and unwell. I wanted to know if there is a chance thyroid can come back after RAI the first try.
Well - I'm not sure there is any research and in my experience there is no mainstream medical follow up or interest ' down the road ' - we've been ' nuked - and left to get on with it.
The most current research talks of RAI having the worst Quality of Life 6-10 years on - ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/306...
and use of the AT drug long term ' safe ' - contradicting all that I was told back in 2005 -pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/338...
I very much doubt your thyroid has regrown - but to put your mind at rest why not arrange a thyroid scan - I think there is a private clinic in London forum members talk of - if you do not get anywhere asking this of your NHS doctor.
I take a different brand desiccated thyroid and have been self medicating these past 6 years and much improved than where mainstream medical treatment left me.
How long have you been on this combo - maybe it needs adjusting - as under and over medication can be similar - what symptoms are you experiencing ?
No thyroid hormone replacement works well until ferritin, folate, B12 and vitamin D are up and maintained at optimal levels -
Do you have current readings of these and of course your T3 / T4 results and ranges - as we can read these reports for you and offer considered opinion as to your next steps back to better health.
If you go into the Thyroid uk website - thyroiduk.org - there is a section regarding Private Testing - within this section there is mention of a London Private Ultrasound clinic and advise regarding making an appointment :
