Having problems

Hi,

Managed to get myself somewhat stable after a crisis period in December/January, and felt the best I had in ages on a dose of 100 mcg, TSH of 0.07 {Range:0.27-4.2}, and T4 of 19 {Range 12-22}. not without symptoms, but better than 95% of the time on dose. T3 was not done despite request from Private Endocrinologist because my GP, completely over the top of him, stated that I do not need retests for various other things he requested! They have subsequently off with an illness and so I have not managed to get anything further due to this. I then saw my private Endo who suggested that I come down on dose, despite the fact that I felt well, to 100/75 alt day, whihc near enough immediately made me feel terrible, and have readjusted dose back to previous, which has helped a bit, but not returned me to the previous state. Very tired, erratic mood/irritability, muscle weakness excacerbation of anxiety, etc.

Get full thyroid and vitamins tested 6-8 weeks after being back on 100mcg

When were vitamins last tested

What supplements do you take

Vitamin levels will have dropped when dose Levo was reduced

Is levothyroxine always same brand at each prescription

Free T4 (fT4) 19 pmol/L (12 - 22)

Only 70.0% through range so not too high

I haven’t gotten in well with increasing FT4 through the range. Perhaps you need lower dose of 75mcg instead. Only one way to find out.

It seems some of us just don’t get on with a higher FT4.

Good luck.

Have you tested Thyroid Antibodies TPO and Tg to rule out Thyroid Autoimmune Disease aka Hashimoto's. Thyroid levels can fluctuate with that.

Might your crisis period have been a "Hashi flare"?

I'd suggest you test again once things settle down, then, based on those labs revise your dose if necessary.

I suspect your FT3 is low.......do you know how well you convert T4 to T3?

FT3 is the most important number followed by FT4. Following diagnosis TSH is not a reliable marker. Medics are confused about this!!

It may help to increase to 100mcg daily....you have room to do this. Test again after 6 weeks on a steady dose of 100mcg levo

Bottom line ....you need a full thyroid test to include...

TSH, FT4, FT3, vit D, vit B12, folate, ferritin and thyroid antibodies TPO and Tg

Nutrients are very likely low.
