So I got the kids to check their levels...

Daughter

TSH 2.81 mIU/L (.27 - 4.2) 64.6% previously 63%

Free T4 (fT4) 15 pmol/L (12 - 22) 30.0% previously 17 pmol/L 50%

Free T3 (fT3) 4.6 pmol/L (3.1 - 6.8) 40.5% previously 5.6pmol/L 67%

T4:T3 Ratio 3.261

She had ditched the supplements for 4 months (though only now fessed up to that) before these results whereas previous ones whilst supplementing... worth doing to prove the advantage of supplementing!

Son in Law

TSH 2.64 mIU/L (.27 - 4.2) 60.3% (test done at 10.20am 🙄)

Free T4 (fT4) 18.5 pmol/L (12 - 22) 65.0%

Free T3 (fT3) 6.1 pmol/L (3.1 - 6.8) 81.1%

T4:T3 Ratio 3.033

Did they test antibodies though?

TiggerMe profile image
TiggerMe in reply to Jaydee1507

Previous antibody test came back negative

It's interesting the difference in frees with the same TSH isn't it

I'd say your daughters need keeping an eye on. Theres a definite decline happening there.

Yep! At least she has learnt that the supplements Mum provides are effective and not just a silly fad 😅

I just posted a few days ago about my 17 year old daughter… I was “this close” 🤏 to putting her on Levo, really was.

Then was advised that I’d need to unpack her B12 and Folate. I’ve been prioritizing iron/ferritin and magnesium and had zero bandwidth to even look at B12 and Folate, mostly because the B12 was up around 500 and Folate also nearer to top than bottom of range.

Well… let me tell you!!! Did my deep dive last night… pulled up all the Vit B posts I’ve saved and actually have one more glimmer of hope that B12/Folate might actually help.

Thank you for this post. I had already gone down the rabbit hole that my daughter has what I have at the young age of 17. But whether she does or not, I just can’t make that decision now until I optimize her vitamins and give her thyroid a chance in the right environment.

So hard to see our kids feeling even a slice of what we feel. She is such a trooper, as my mom used to say.

It is fascinating now that we can use our knowledge to guide them but need to be careful not to go off half cocked... She is functioning well but I thought perkier at the end of last year which ties in with the fact she had fallen off the supplement wagon! I just wanted to get a good idea of where her 'normal' is before she thinks of having children which is what kicked it off for me but took 20 years to get picked up 🫤

Her B12, folate and Vit D are all still mid range having been optimised previously but it's good that it has proven to her that they are needed and making a difference, luckily her DNA isn't as wonky as mine but knowing that there are also thyroid issues in her husbands family means I've got them both under surveillance and he takes his supplements reasonably regularly as in training for a Tough Mudder with a competitive streak and fear of MIL? 😆

They are 'The Kids' as we are 'The Olds'! 😁

My 17 year old has terrible fatigue and brain fog. Like me, her days drift away into vague distant memories or just completely forgotten.

I can hear the words she uses to explain, and I get it.

But yes - can’t go off half cocked, although if I really thought Levo was a magic pill I wouldn’t hesitate. I’m more concerned she will be among us where it doesn’t resolve symptoms.

So vitamins it is.

It all breaks my heart but I’m not out of hope yet.

Ps I did Tough Mudder too! It was fun. Make sure they get there early early… the mud is nice and clean in the morning … by the end of the day thousands of humans have gone through it and leaving behind all their bodily fluids !!!

Definitely optimise her vits and mins to give a clearer picture, does she take a good B complex with an active B6 (P-5-P) as this is good for the brain, also a magnesium complex with some threonate is good

I get them to use iodised salt too

Have you had her sex hormones checked?

Ps 🤢🤣

Just started her magnesium and did indeed choose Theonate!

Just last night ordered better you b12 spray and then Thorne basic b : )

As for me … I started the sex hormone HRT convo with my doctor a few weeks ago. I asked her to put in my notes that I might call to get some, but I wasn’t ready yet. I still want to go another month or so with my vitamins and possibly T4/T3. So still have a couple titration periods before I would prioritize that.

But you e reminded me, I meant to ask for a blood test but forgot.

I had some idea in my head that they are volatile enough that maybe it didn’t matter that much?

But can you give me your opinion - should I get a baseline for those sex hormones right now? Will that be useful? I think you gave me this list:

* Oestradiol

* Progesterone

* Follicle-Stimulating Hormone

* Luteinising Hormone

* Prolactin

* Testosterone

* Sex Hormone Binding Globulin

* Free Androgen Index

should I just ask for an Rx to get those tested?

Are we talking you or your daughter? Would be a good idea to get for both of you, I did send you the Randox home test didn't I, as you won't get a full panel from your GP

Hi! Sorry yes I switched to me.

To clarify - HRT is for me.

Also to clarify. As I’m in the US, I can ask for what I need and have at least a chance of getting it without a fight.

So that being said

1) is that list the wish list? I will cut and paste into an email to my doctor, so please do let me know if you’d add or take anything away.

Also

2) is that also valuable to know for my 17 year old daughter??

Ah yes!... that's the list, it would be a good insight for your daughter too as she is obviously just at that joyous age when everything goes haywire🙃

Oh thank you! I’ve requested for myself, and will bring up with my daughters doctor once they get back to me on her pending antibody results and my questions about getting her a thyroid scan : )

lol ,.... never been tough mudding , but did wash clothes following daughter and BF going.... astonishing how much mud fabric can hold. 4 rinses in a bucket and mud was still coming out ... never though about what else might be in it... yuck !

It must be the snot that makes it cling 🤢

No doubt people pee along the way all day long.

And yes, for me the mud never came out. Tossed those workout clothes and sneakers away after!

I just remember the fresh mud in the morning was lovely really. Like, it smelled good like a trail after a good rainstorm. When I circled back at the end it was … not.

Totally yuck.
