I don’t think I’m actually asking for anything here but I’m still freezing ie I feel cold inside despite hot drinks blankets and heating being on however apart from hands being cold to touch I think my skin is quite warm … sorry to be graphic but not only do I look literally grey/purple in colour (odd as I have naturally pale but greenish skin tones (just look like I’m going off usually and always have it’s gross tbf)) I’ve noticed myself literally squeal when I sit on the loo because of the cold seat and I realised today I’ve been putting off going because of it - then I’ve just realised I build myself up and brace myself to hop into bed as the cold sheets touch my skin brought tears to my eyes … but within 10 mins of two fleece blankets, a thick down duvet pjs and woollen socks and vest I’ll be toasty … don’t know numbers as gp hasn’t posted results from a week ago (😡) but I feel like poop I nibble about 7.5mg Off a 10mg Carbimazole pill daily 🤷‍♀️

Apparently weight changes & dehydration can contribute to feeling cold.

Any changes to weight or fluid intake?

Do you take beta blockers? They can affect circulation.

Have nutrients been tested particularly ferritin / iron.

You might be closer to hypothyroid levels & dose needs reducing prehaps?

You can get 5mg pills & although small can be easily cut in a pill cutter designed to split them.

I think I’ve quartered a 10mg before.

Did you ever find out what the GP text was about?

I’m just obese since starting this medication and now boarder in on an eating disorder I get so anxious re food but I still eat I just cry before and meals - appreciate we can’t mention mental health issues so I’ll leave that there.

No fluid changes or other medications taken.

No idea last t4 reading was 16 but they’ve yet to upload results from a week ago.

I find 10s crumble even with a Stanley blade and I think they know I won’t comply so won’t give me 5s.

This week they finally uploaded the letter about pregnancy- for which I laughed at the morons thinking I’d be of child baring age at this age 🙄

I had the opposite when I was hyperthyroid, finally I felt warm. Perhaps the treatment is working and you're starting to swing the other way? Don't change your dose without the results, unless you have a sore throat or fever (read the packet blurb). Remember hyperthyroidism is a potentially dangerous condition.

How long have you been on that dose of carbimazole? My levels came under control pretty quickly, but the endo was monitoring blood levels closely and titrating down based on the results. It takes time and you have to be patient. Post your results when you get them, and get your vitamins checked as per the forum advice.

Give yourself a break about your weight, I know it can be depressing if you're used to being slimmer, but stress is the last thing you need. It can aggravate Graves if that's what you have. Just tell yourself it's a phase you have to go through to get well again. That's what I did, at a stone heavier than my normal. Make sure you eat well and cleanly, your body needs those nutrients to get better, not just the drugs.

Once your hormones have stabilised, even if it takes two years, then you can focus on gradually getting back to where you were, if that feels right for you. Don't do crash diets or fasting, you need to treat yourself carefully and kindly or you can set off the immune response again.

thanks - I was always cold prior to this condition but this is another end of evil for me. I change my dose when necessary as the drs don't have any interest in my quality of life, they're only interested in numbers. I understand all the problems with the medication, as been on a while now. My GP nor endo does much testing in the way of vitamin levels and I am not paying for private testing, despite people on clearly having shares in private testing 😂

I am sure your comments about my weight and diet are coming from a good place. My diet is insanely clean, and is commented on regularly.

Goodness, of course from a good place :-)

BTW thanks very much for your post about the margin of error on test results. I was stressing about some differences in my blood count that the doctor dismissed, now I feel a lot happier!

I had the coldness etc too with hyper too but it was because of being oo long on too high a dose of carb amd beta blockers. So everything was working very well and it caused me to go hypo. Your experience sounds similar. Bloods is the only way to check it though. Hope you can have them done asap.

Thanks Jo - yeah had them done last week and have been checking online several times a day but GP just hasn't uploaded them - feeling grumpy so might shout at someone on Monday (I won't but I'll want to)

If I were you, I would ring your GP and tell the receptionist you'd like to book a blood test to check your B12, folate, vitamin D and ferritin as you have a thyroid problem and they haven't been checked. I would them mention that your previous blood test results haven't been posted yet and ask when they will be. All nice and calm. No doubt she will have to refer to someone else about the blood test. In my practice it tends to be the nurse. If there are any queries reiterate that you have found out people with thyroid problems often become low in these things so it is essential they are tested each year and you feel unwell and wonder if this could be the cause. Good luck.

Your posting moniker says everything to me: "nooneimportant". Sounds like your mental health is really suffering. You poor thing. Look into the books written by Paul Robinson. He has a website as well as a FB page. (I also believe that he takes phone calls.) There's got to be something on one of his pages that can help you.

We have the most expensive healthcare system over here in the USA, but we also have some great Docs, Nurses and hospitals. Several of our more liberal presidents have tried to make our medical system into what you have in Europe, but our people keep fighting back and voting against it. Thank God.

Being cold definitely smacks of HYPOthyroidism, but it could be so much more especially since your skin color is somewhat grey, as you say. Gosh, it could be a heart problem. Please beg your Doc to get you a referral to have extensive testing for all things circulatory. Something seems so wrong. God bless you!

I am - a little more convinced that at least for me my numbers might be too low "Hypothyroidism can cause puffiness, fluid retention, and swelling, known as edema. You may notice this symptom in your face and around your eyes, as well as in your hands and feet." I literally look like I did when I had preeclampsia 21 years old, just before I nearly died (due to medical neglect - couldn't make it up honestly), I can't even express the pain I have in my breasts and joints too.

I wasn't as cold yesterday, but felt like I was coming down with something (sore throat, runny nose, fatigued, cracking headache etc) and I know what that can mean so I went to bed thinking there's a chance I might not wake up today. But I did and those symptoms have gone for now.

I have contacted both GP and consultant re my latest results. GP said they don't have them and consultant hasn't replied to two messages now ....

I am now seriously considering trying to leave the UK - due to how utterly awful the healthcare system has become here (don't come for me I work in the NHS I have the inside track on this) and the pure misery many are living in, I think it would be something positive to think about to try and get out!
