shakes- pea protein

I can’t have dairy and I don’t think I’m meant to have soya with hypothyroidism. I desperately need to put weight on and people keep saying about shakes.

Is a pea protein one okay for thyroid patients?

Hi, I’m in the same boat and due to gut issues I can’t have pea protein either.

I use a beef protein isolate it’s from Amy Myers and is called Paleo Protein it’s AIP approved too. Comes in different flavours.

There’s a cheaper Beef Protein Isolate on Bulk Powders too in lots different flavours but it uses suclarose which I don’t like.

Hope this helps.

Try Hemp protein.. High in minerals amino acids and protein. I do a smoothie with almond milk, banana, avocado and cacao, & use stevia to sweeten.

When I had food intolerances tested, cow dairy was a huge one and to my surprise, peas as well! Not saying it has to be your case, but it may be worth testing. I have gone with pure ground hemp.Do not forget healthy fats - may I recommend a book called Nourishing Fats by the Weston Price foundation. It's not only l about avocadoes 🙂 they make a compelling argument (for me at least) for some animal fats, so I eat my home roasted chicken with the crispy skin on guilt free now 🙂

I’m surprised you need to gain weight with hypothyroidism. That’s something I heard others say…never. Could you mean hypERthyroidism? Back to your question… Compared to regular whey, whey protein isolate is less likely to cause issues if lactose intolerant, has a higher protein content and has better bioavailability than pea protein. Basically though, eating more calories than you can burn, will put on weight. High fat and carbs usually do the trick.

Significant minority of Hashimoto’s patients really struggle to maintain weight

especially if under medicated and/or low vitamin levels

There are absolutely no hard and fast rules about symptoms of hypO or hypER. There are people who gain weight when hypER, and people who lose weight when hypO.

I eat a vegetarian, gluten-free, dairy-free diet. When I work out with weights I drink a protein shake made with pea protein. It doesn't seem to bother me. I use vegan smart protein shake. It has all the amino acids and in one serving gives you 20 g of protein. I just makes it with water and drink it after I work out.

I use pea protein powder from 'Protein Works', not that I'm advocating the brand: I only really like the unflavoured blend as others are far too sweet. I've effortlessly increased my protein uptake a lot, though, mostly by adding a scoop to lunchtime soups. However, having read the discussion here, I might have just put two and two together regarding an increase in IBS symptoms since starting this. I had a hair analysis test done a few months ago, and I never actually took its results seriously ... but peas showed up as a trigger.

Personally I don't do well with Pea Protein. I use Rice Protein . For some reason it's easier on my digestion. I had TT and was diagnosed with Hashimoto Thyroiditise. I'm totally off all dairy products and Gluten. And it made for me a tremendous difference. Dairy products and Gluten made me very tired and lethargic 20-30 of ingesting them.

Yes, pea protein is good, also hemp, rice etc. I used to drink Sun Warrior vegan protein, the chocolate one. Now I've ordered vegan Ghost protein to try
