Problems with Teva update

Hi all just wanted to update as promised. Well two weeks in and I still am very poorly, I still can't do much. There is some improvement in that the fear and over emotional has gone. Also I am not getting the jerking and horrible feelings as I am falling asleep. But waking up after a couple of hours. I can think straight now but am so bored!! My tounge is still burning but the gums have gone down. I am finding that I feel a bit more human in the evening, I wonder why that is? The tremors and palpitations are still there but give me a rest every now and again but not for long.

That sounds rather like adrenal fatigue, to me. Have you had your cortisol tested?

Hi greygoose. No I haven't I am going to get private blood tests but didn't think it was worth it yet. I only went back on the Accord to weeks ago. Won't they be all over the place at the moment? I still feel like I am hyperactive.

I think it's worth it.

So which brand have you been taking recently?

While I'm here, are you supplementing low vitamin levels?

When hypo we get low stomach acid which means we cannot absorb vitamins well from our food, regardless of a great diet. For thyroid hormone to work well we need OPTIMAL levels of vitamins. Have you recently or could you ask your GP to test levels of ferritin, folate, B12 & D3? Private tests are available, see link for companies offering private blood tests & discount codes, some offer a blood draw service at an extra cost.thyroiduk.org/testing/priva...

There is also a new company offering walk in (includes free blood draw) & mail order blood tests in London, Kent, Sussex & Surrey areas. Check to see if there is a blood test company near you. onedaytests.com/products/ul...

Only do private tests on a Monday or Tuesday to avoid postal delays.

Hi Jay deep I have gone back onto Accord which I have taken for 10 years or more. I am taking daily multi vitamins as a precaution

Jaydee1507Administrator in reply toTimmyroo

Multivitamins are not recommended for a number of reasons including not containing enough of any ingredient that would improve a deficiency to optimal, poor quality ingredients, containing iodine etc etc

I strongly recommend you get a test run for ferritin, folate, B12 & D3, post results in a new post.

Its highly likely you have low vitamin levels which could be contributing to your symptoms.

Stop multivitamins generally

Never recommended on here

Most contain iodine not recommended for anyone on levothyroxine

Stop any supplements that contain biotin 5-7 days before ALL blood tests

Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

The jerking and feeling horrible as you fall asleep could be caused by low magnesium and/or potassium. It could also happen with low salt diets and/or low vitamin D.

Lots of people are short of magnesium. Unfortunately the tests available for testing magnesium levels are not very accurate or reliable. When people supplement magnesium any excess they might take is excreted in urine by the kidneys. So the main danger with taking magnesium occurs if someone with non-functioning or poorly functioning kidneys were to take it.

pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/291...

A safe dose of magnesium used in supplementation is 250mg - 400mg per day.

For other info :

If magnesium doesn't help the problems you describe, you could try potassium supplementation. But it is something that must be tried much more cautiously than magnesium.

It's worth reading this article and the comments :
