In my experience first appointments can cost significantly more than follow up appointments (eg £200-£250 compared to £120-£150). It’s definitely worth phoning up and asking costs before booking an appointment. Also recommended to complete full thyroid and leg vitamin tests via Medichecks/ Blur Horizon etc and take print out to discuss at first meeting. Blood tests via private hospitals invariably cost more.

Many thanks for responses . I’m 76 so get free meds. Is my GP obliged to prescribe the dosage recommended by endocrinologist?

No. The GP might agree to a shared care agreement if an NHS endo prescribes, but not a private endo.

As some endos do both private and HHS work some people manage to start off privately and then move to NHS prescriptions but this doesn’t always happen.

What problems are you experiencing ? Have you asked your GP for a referral?

£200 ish first consultation plus bloods might be £3-400 then second consultation £130 ish

I paid £225 for an initial consult and then £110 for subsequent appointments which are 3 monthly at the moment.

Bloods I get done via medichecks or monitor my health.

Prescription is £150ish every 3 months.

One very highly respected private Endo is £280 on the first appointment which is 40 mins. This would not include blood tests which you should undertake privately , and supply to them at your first appointment. A 2nd appointment would be cheaper, but is charged by the minute! The more time spent talking to you, the more you will be charged. The person in question believes in making you pay for the expertise they provide.
