Clinical Indication:
croaky voice, underactive thyroid
Findings:
Patient highlights known Hashimoto's.
The thyroid is atrophic and hypoechoic in keeping with end stage
diffuse thyroid disease. It has an
overall volume of 2.1 cc; the right lobe has a volume of 1.3 cc,
while the left a volume of 0.8 cc.
The isthmus measures 1 mm AP.
Solitary 5 x 3 isoechoic nodule in the left lobe. It is avascular and
shows a hypoechoic rim. No
convincing sinister features are demonstrated (U2).
No lymphadenopathy visualised in either cervical chain.
Conclusions:
Thyroid is atrophic in keeping with end stage diffuse thyroid
disease. No acute findings.
What does this mean? Do I need to do anything differently from being Hashimoto's to being atrophic and hypoechoic in keeping with end stage?
I would be grateful for any feedback.
Many thanks
