T3 prescribed

Hello lovely people. Just had appointment with private Endo who has prescribed T3, 5mcgs twice a day+T4 175mcgs. His PA to send my T3 meds (20mcgs) for which I will now get a pill cutter. To retest in about a month's time. He is writing to GP (who said T3 irrelevant), copy to me. So, is there a best time to take T3? Thank you again in anticipation of yr help

I'd suggest starting with just 5mcgs first thing in the morning and then if all is well after a week or two add the second 5mcgs late afternoon.

How people take T3 is quite individual. Many prefer to space it out over the day in 2 or 3 doses, usually morning, late afternoon then bedtime if on 3 doses, skip the bedtime dose if only on 2 doses.

Some people like to take it all at once but that doesnt work for everyone. Trial & error.

Thankyou for that. Endo said twice a day, so will go for morning+late afternoon. Re morning T3 can I take with T4 or should I leave a gap? Thankyou .

I have personally taken it at the same time. So long as you always do the same thing your blood results will be consistent.

You could take Levo at bedtime which would allow you to take it seperately.

Thankyou. Don't where I would be without you all.🥳🥳

Start on 5mg once a day for the first week. If all ok then add in the second dose.No point in testing in a month as things won't have had time to adapt in that short time and any dose adjustments made on the results would be based on unstable levels.

I’d follow your Endo’s experienced advise. Go for twice a day 8hrs apart. I do 7.30am then 3pm. He prescribed the same for me and I’ve had huge success following his dosage instructions. It’s important I feel to keep to a strict regimen with your meds. I set an alarm on my mobile to remind me. Our bodies like routine. I also split my levo dose as I feel it avoids any spikes.

I'm with you about routine. I have an alarm to drink water so can do just the same for the T3. Do you take yr T3@same time as Levo in a morning on an empty stomach? Will have to set an alarm for that as if not got anything on any given day like to wake up naturally! Mind you, after T3 could always turn over for another 40 winks! How does splitting your Levo dose work as it needs to be on an empty stomach? Do you do a morning+then before bed dose?? I've so many questions, sorry!

I take liquid levothyroxine so there’s no need to avoid food really. It absorbs much better than tablet form. I do however still try and avoid food. I take my levo at 12noon and 4.30pm. I take liothyronine at 7.30 then again at 3pm daily. I have an Apple mobile and can set reminders on there in the health app. But to be honest I rarely need a reminder these days.

May I ask how long you had to wait before yr T3 script was sorted? Bill paid yesterday but with Christmas nearly here wondered if I'm gonna have to wait til New Year ? Did email Valerie yesterday to ask that question but heard nothing back so assume she's now off for Christmas. Getting impatient!🤐

I got my email from Valerie pretty quickly. I don’t think she’ll be off work just yet. And the pharmacy was really quick at getting the T3 posted to me. Give her another nudge I’d say then maybe you’ll get the medication in between Christmas and NY if not before fingers crossed

excellent news 😀👍. It should arrive before Christmas, let’s hope anyway. What a fab parcel to open on Christmas Day! Send me a private message and let me know how it goes. Remember 5mcg twice a day 8hrs apart. Early morning and mid afternoon. Very pleased indeed for you.
