Eltroxin - Has ingredients changed since Autumn 🍂 2021 in UK 🇬🇧

Hello 👋 Everyone ,

I have posted here before ☺️

I was just checking has Eltroxin ( Mercury Pharma ) changed its formulation since around Autumn 2021 ?

You will see from previous posts that I’ve recently come off NDT Armour ( 1/2 Grain ) as I was struggling with costs so I’ve been prescribed Eltroxin 50mcg .

I’ve been on it 7 days ( but just 25mcg ) as I’m so sensitive to changes and Ive been having itching flares 🙈. I feel like I could crawl out of my skin 😞 Scalp itchy too .

I am just wondering if it’s because I’ve started so low on dose and my body is missing what I had got up to with Armour before stopping it .

When I was first diagnosed with Hashimoto’s around Autumn 2021 I was prescribed Eltroxin 25mcg but I don’t recall any itching all over !

Has formula changed since around Autumn 2021 ?

Thank you in advance for any kind responses , much appreciated 🙏

Kelly

Having swapped from Armour that includes T3 to Levo only is a huge change for your body alone and you may not be on the correct dose yet.

Is there a reason you're only taking 25mcgs Levo at the moment? I would suspect you're on too lower dose and your body is missing the T3 thats in Armour.

What supplements are you taking?

What are your latest vitamin results?

Thank you very much for the reply ✨

I’ll come back in more detail tomorrow together with my test results ☺️

UK levothyroxine products rarely change their ingredients. Indeed, I don't remember a single one that has done so other than when one product was taken off the market in 2012 for a few years then returned as a new formulation. (And that was printed across every pack.)

However, there could be a problem with an ingredient - for example, coming from a different source, or contaminated in some way. Or even a batch rather than a single ingredient.

If you think something is wrong or different, please submit a Yellow Card report.

helvella's medicines documents (UK and Rest of the World) can be found here:

helvella - Thyroid Hormone Medicines

helvella has created, and tries to maintain, documents containing details of all thyroid hormone medicines in the UK and, in less detail, many others around the world.

This link takes you to a page which has direct links to the documents from Dropbox and Google Drive, and QR codes to make it easy to access from phones.

The UK document contains up-to-date versions of the Summary Matrix for tablets, oral solutions and liothyronine available in the UK.

Thank you 🙏 so much……that’s good to know that the formula hasn’t changed ☺️

Yes I think I had been researching Eltroxin that’s available in other countries but not the one in the uk 🇬🇧

Completely different product made by different companies with different ingredients!

I love the way the pharmaceutical industry manages to confuse us.

I hadn't connected itching to levo. I was self medicating with t3 only and let Christies Manchester talk me into taking levo and lio. At the moment it's a trial on my side because I was not brilliant but ok on lio only.

My scalp is the worse with the itching but I do itch on other parts of my body and dry skin.

It does make me wonder now how many other people have the same side effect.

ashquar, 'I hadn't connected itching to levo. '

Two things you can do that might help: 1) Try a different brand of levo and 2) try an antihistamine half an hour before taking the levo.

Thanks, but I can't change brands as its took so long for me to get them to write the brand on the perscription, but will try the antihistamine.

Hi, they are not allowed to change ingredients without going through the mhra. Even then it wouldn't to be trialed
