lectins fructans and gluten lightbulb moment 💡

Listened to a Zoe podcast about Lectins yesterday, I’d never heard of them.

He talks about a study where they fed gluten intolerant people gluten and they had no reaction. They fed another group of gluten intolerant people Fructans and they all reacted.

Fructans are in wheat barley rye etc. dairy and so much more. He said closely linked to FODMAP

Thought that was interesting, I definitely do better with low FODMAP meals perhaps this is why 🤷🏽‍♀️

I shall go and catch up 🤗

Sounds plausible to me it's dairy and barley that press my buttons especially malted barley

Legumes and nightshades too!

Out of curiosity, how does your body react to these things?

It starts as a pain in back right side of my neck and behind the right eye (vagus nerve) migraine, feel totally wired, nausea and then 24 hours later IBS like my colon has cramp 😓cold sweat and occasionally fainted if it happens in the middle of the night.... apparently that's down to low BP which drops even more when the pain strikes

Literally feels like I've been poisoned and can take 24 -48 hours for the migraine to clear☹️

Much the same with histamine but lasts longer

I was wondering if there is an element of low grade flu like symptom which is what I have from about 1st Nov to end of March . Your symptoms sound truly shit .Much harder to function normally with than mine . You have my sympathy

Avoidance is key and then no problem thankfully 🤗

Yours sounds seasonal so could it be mold spores? Or something that you use in the house which increases when heating is on and windows more likely closed?

Depends on what, spelt, wheat, gives me a throbbing upper back pain like a knotted muscle, click needed feeling high up between my shoulder blades and a nut cracking headache behind my eyes that even sleep doesn’t touch.

Cannellini beans distended stomach explosive wind, jelly/mucus in loose stools.

Rye/Barley - foul smelling constant silent flatulence and hung over feeling.

Chickpeas reflux, burping, windy foaming stools.

Funny you should mention pain in high back /spine. I had that for years when breathing in artificial perfumes etc. I never connected it with gluten but since going more strictly gluten free it’s gone. I’m just left with pains in my face & teeth now!

Ah ha! So what is irritating your sinuses? Dentist told me it links face and teeth. Or is it trigeminal neuralgia? 🌱

Yes, it’s that or attached nerves. Sinuses are irritated, I guess, by the chemicals that I react to. Perfumes, deodorisers, smoke & ozone. Those are the ones I’ve identified. Thought of Botox but apparently those nerves are essential for so many important tasks it’s would be impossible.

Half way through having my mercury fillings changed to ceramic & some pain has stopped so 🤞on 20th Dec when the last 3 go I might be ok. Would be the best Xmas present ever!
