I've been using the Hunter & Gather lambs kidney supplement.

Thank you, is it working well for you?

I have really itchy skin even though I take fexofenodine and am gluten, dairy and sugar free. Heard a DAO enzyme could help

A DAO enzyme will help, I take 3 of the kidney supplements 20 mins before food but I also have to eat a low histamine diet with no processed foods at all.

This histamine content list is highly rated. Pick foods in the zero column and look out for histamine liberator and blocker foods, medicines etc

Its working fairly well but I'm not long into the diet properly and should improve with time. The main thing is I'm not intolerant to them which was a problem for me with the pea ones due to additives I assume.

I've started growing my own pea shoots (has to be in the dark for higher DAO levels) in jars too. I can then juice the whole plant including roots.

I've been using NATURDAO 1.000.000 HDU for a few months along with quercetin The Most Boring diet known to humanity and there's definitely an improvement. Whether that's anything to do with the DAO or just my cranky body calming down with the low histamine diet I can't say.

I have some of those but it seemed like a game of russian roulette every time I tried something a bit risky so I too just stick to the boring but non reactive diet, are you going to try adding things back in?

I'm seeing a nutritionist at the moment and she recommended taking a DAO supplement with lunch & dinner which is certainly helping my symptoms.

As yet I can't use them to eat anything I might like to but that should come in time once my tissue levels of histamine drop enough.

I found an app called Food Intolerances which covers gluten, dairy and histamine etc. you choose your intolerance and has a list of foods on traffic light system. I cannot believe I have been having almond milk (orange) while cow milk is green. I always though cow milk was inflammatory which is why I stopped having it and replaced with almond milk. Another shocker is Soy milk is green - soy is genetically modified and cant be good for you? 😱

Be very wary of apps and web pages that list different levels of histamine in food. There is only one well respected list and that is the Sighi one that I will link to. Even then, people have individual tolerance levels of various foods, so that although a list may say something is OK it may well not be for you.

Many internet lists also have conflicting information so again, caution.

Thanks, it's showing the same for pasteurised milk and whey - there's no almond milk on the Sighi list - but almonds are at a 2 so kind of the same. No soy milk on the Sighi list.

I suppose it will be trial and error - i have a smoothie every morning with nuts and bone broth protein and collegen protein - but that could be harming my body with the histamine in the almond milk, almond butter and some of the seeds like hemp 🥴

Keep a food diary and note any symptoms. Eventually a pattern will emerge and you will identify the offending food/s. Remember that its also not just foods but drinks, sometimes scents, chemicals in your environment - think toiletries & household cleaner products etc. Such a mine field!

Will do, thank you. I have started wearing gloves when cleaning (never did before)

Just replace your cleaning products with no/low scent eco versions but beware any with citric acid which is a form of preservative and a mast cell liberator.

Did you successfully find a DAO supplement that brought you some relief? Most studies that have looked at the use of DAO enzymes to help treat symptoms of HI have used 4.2mg of DAO (10,000 HDU), taken two to three times daily at mealtimes. Many DAO supplements advertise dosages of 1,000,000 HDU or more per serving, which can be dangerous when experimenting with supplementation, especially if they’re unregulated supplements. Seeking Health offers a DAO supplement containing just 4.2mg (10,000 HDU) of DAO called Histamine Digest, and for me it’s been just enough to alleviate my severe HI symptoms. I hope you’ve had some success in some way, but maybe this will help in case you’re still searching.{ }
