Can you write/email to local, regional or national papers?

Can you talk to friends, neighbours, anyone?

Can you put cards/posters up on public noticeboards?

Can you contact your political representatives (MPs, MSs, MSPs, councillors, etc.)?

Can you drop flyers at suitable locations?

Remember - you don't have to have a printer - just a pen and paper is sufficient.

What about sending it to all UK members of this forum. There are lots who are presently NOT ACTIVE and will probably not know about this petition. lynmynott Could this be done. If you need volunteers to help, I for one am fully prepared to step up.

helvellaAdministrator in reply toGingernut44

Other than manually wading through the members, and sending each one a Private Message, there is no way to do this.

There is no bulk email (nor bulk PM) option. And co-ordinating some way of splitting the list up is itself a problem. Plus, many do not state their country in their profile.

Gingernut44 profile image
Gingernut44 in reply tohelvella

Can we not just get the members list up and send the Petition info as an alert, surely it doesn’t need to be by PM. Does it really matter if they haven’t put their country in their profile, they will know if it doesn’t apply to them from the description.

tattybogle profile image
tattybogle in reply toGingernut44

i've started tagging lists of members to Lyn's original post in replies .

you can tag 15 members in each reply .

crude but hopefully effective.

have been using members list set to 'similar to me ' , and just working my way through it that way.

Well done - I was thinking, start by alphabetical order - start with x,y,z and get those out of the way then 1 person do members starting with an “A” the next “B” etc. with a few volunteers, I’m sure we could crack this - there’s enough of us and 15 at once is doable - what do you think?

I don’t think it would matter if some folk got it twice.

helvella profile image
helvellaAdministrator in reply toGingernut44

There are around 130,000 registered members.

Gingernut44 profile image
Gingernut44 in reply tohelvella

And ??? If we can reach half of them it would be good.

Growing up, us kids were always told that if you start with a defeatist attitude you’ll always be defeated. If you don’t try, you’ll always fail. God bless my mum and dad.

tattybogle profile image
tattybogle in reply toGingernut44

Yes ,.... annoyingly the members list we have accessible here is not alphabetised . It can only be only categorised by Most contributions / New / Similar to me .. and by page numbers .

We could do it using page numbers eg. someone do 'most contributions' page 1 -50 .. someone else does most contributions page 50 -100 .

'most contributions' is probably the most stable of these lists .. the page numbers on the others will change around a lot

Some duplications/ omissions/ wrong country will be inevitable

doesn't matter though .. people can ignore if inappropriate.

..... 3 or 4 unwanted requests to 'help us out' by signing a petition is not out of order if someone has had help from the forum in the past .

Gingernut44 profile image
Gingernut44 in reply totattybogle

ok, I didn’t realise the list wasn’t in alphabetical order (how stupid). I’ve just gone through my PM list going back 4 years and noted all those (43 so far) who I haven’t seen posting or replying recently. I haven’t started yet but waiting until “him indoors “ is watching some mindless programme on the telly later 😉 Can “we” make a call out to the recent prolific posters/repliers who are willing to set aside some of their time to help out and set up a system for who does what, as you suggest say up to 60 (only because it’s easily divisible by 15, being the magic number)

  TiggerMe   DippyDame   Regenallotment   Hidden   Lalatoot

Ha, just realised - if you put an @ in front of a first initial, you get a list pop up as in @ then start typing A ….. so alphabetical could work.

I forgot to ask, can you point me to where the initial post by Lyn Mynot is, I think I’ve deleted that days posts.

tattybogle in reply toGingernut44

here: healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

@ list is maybe an idea , but ... you have to put ?2 letters in before list pops up .

So many things about the 'filing system' on HU are rubbish .. hey ho . Plus the alert notifications are a bit hit and miss sometimes.

so far i've done : anyone who follows me >>>> and done 'members 'New' page 1- 10. ( edit . no i haven't , it was members 'similar to me') >>>> have started on members i've replied to and helped recently,

I’ll do my 43 this evening and go from there.

in reply toGingernut44

How can I help? I'm happy to tag but unsure how to do it in an orderly fashion without repeating the work of others! I've tried to spread the link around my personal channels like its Covid, it's my birthday today, have let many a friend off the gift hook in exchange for a signature!

But Gingernut, I have some concerns about the petition... what if the money for this research (should it appear) falls into the hammy hands of BTA et al. or similar and all we end up with is a load of more poorly designed studies with manipulated outcomes that glorify TSH/levo mono 😭😭😭

Gingernut44 profile image
Gingernut44 in reply to

First off - Happy Birthday 🥳🎈

I think we’re all hoping that this will enlighten the Government (if they don’t already know) about the dire treatment of thyroid disorders in the UK and probably world wide. I don’t think for one minute that Dr Taylor actually thinks any of this fine money will be spent on our cause but it will bring forward the need for proper research - hopefully Weetman, Boelaert and Pearce won’t be allowed anywhere near it. We can certainly kick up a fuss if they do.

Tatty and SD seem to be keeping up with replies to new posts this evening. Do you have any members you’ve had PM’s with that have been quiet on the forum lately, that’s where I’ve started. I’ve also thrown in a few more from the “a’s” as well. I don’t think it matters if we double up, I wouldn’t be offended and would just ignore a second request. Just go for it, every little helps.

in reply toGingernut44

ok I see, that makes a lot of sense - so this is a bit of an exercise in making noise! I can do that! I was being naive. Thank you 🥳 X

Perhaps those of us who regularly contribute to discussions here have already seen and signed the petition (I did when I saw it on TwitterX and I was the 74th signature) and so the less active members should be the first targets…

tattybogle profile image
tattybogle in reply toZephyrbear

yes i made a start last night at page 200 onwards of the 'most contributions' list for that reason . (i got up to page 210. Gingernut44 )

unfortunately it's a P.I.T.A to click through to page 200, but once you are there it's ok (as long as you don't close the page accidentally like i did)

Gingernut44 profile image
Gingernut44 in reply totattybogle

I know what you mean, it’s a PITA, I copied the post I wanted to share, got distracted and lost the lot. I didn’t do so well as expected - lots of unexpected distractions so will give it my full attention this evening. I’ve got a busy day today so hoping my stamina will hold out till bedtime 😵‍💫 I did find that just 2 letters brought up names after the @ sign and I started with aa (I thought someone might give themselves aardvark as a member name 😀) it’s surprising how many aa’s there are.

Zephyrbear 'the less active members should be the first targets…'

Which is exactly why we set up a poll about it. The poll sends out emails to all members that have the option enabled in their profile, regardless of their forum activity. :)

Do be careful and ask before doing anything like that!

The last thing any of us would want is to hear of someone getting into any trouble from doing something like that. :-)

And - despite that balance being clearly towards females - there are lots of males as well!
