Haven't had time to read it in detail but if as she says water is fluoridated in just a few countries we would expect all the other locations to have much better thyroid health. I've not heard of this.

Perhaps we need to look back to before water fluoridation?

From memory, it was the difference in fluoride content of the water supplies between North and South Shields that provided the starting point for dental fluoridation. Better teeth where fluoride was higher.

I wonder if we have statistics re thyroid disease between the two (at round about the same time - things have changed since).

Fluoride of course is not the only trigger for hashimoto's and thyroid issues. Also, thyroid ranges in USA (tsh in particular) are larger than in many European countries. (eg. someone with tsh of 5.0 would often be told they are "within range"). Many people may not be triggered by the fluoride in their water. I for example, developed EMF sensitivity and cannot live near 4 or 5G masts and other sources of such radiation. Others can live in 'radiation soup' and not have any discernible problems. Flouride is better avoided where possible. It certainly is worth researching the topic a little more.

Many years ago fluoride was used to treat people with an overactive thyroid, as it dampened the thyroid gland and stopped it over producing.

So today many of us are consuming water with added fluoride and as it’s absorbed by the skin on bathing and food when we wash it and cook with it, must be having some effect on us ?

The discussion about fluoride seems to be ongoing with arguments for and against swinging back and forth. In the book "Toxic Sludge Is Good For You" the subject is discussed. Recently Dr. Greger, who used to be a proponent of water fluoridation, has changed his mind based on research declaring fluoride a neurotoxin. As a lot of subjects surrounding thyroid more research is needed. I prefer to filter the fluoride out of the water I drink. I'm sure I still get more than enough of it from the tea I drink and other sources unknown to me. To voice a very radical opinion, it could be said that fluoride is a medication added to the water to prevent tooth decay. So should we then add other medications for the most common diseases such as heart disease to the water also? It seems ludicrous, really. I'm convinced there is a lot to be discussed on the subject and those who were successfully treated for chalky teeth with fluoride (for example) would be staunch proponents for water fluoridation, whereas those who believe that almost anything can be fixed or prevented with an appropriate diet (for example) would maybe not feel it necessary to put medication in the water we drink. And what about high levels of fluoride naturally existing in water in some areas of the world? I even believe there was research done on that in the U.K somewhere. Or is it a matter of how much? And if so, how much is too much? For me there are definitely more questions than answers at this point.

Hi I am using thooth paste who have a lot of fluoride because I have tooth decay. He disturbed me a lot but my dentist said I have to use it.

Maybe oil pulling would help (read on the internet). It gets rid of a lot of bacteria etc in the mouth. I find it a bit hard to do but it is something that's been around for a very long time.

My dentist is very respectful of my thyroid condition and has never told me that I have to brush with fluoridated toothpaste. She believes that many factors cause tooth decay. One of the believes she holds is that our lifestyle as well as age, which comes with chemical changes in the mouth, can be a cause of tooth decay. She emphasizes good oral hygiene, cutting down on sugar as much as possible and eating food that is high in nutrients (especially rich in minerals). Some also suggest the use of xylitol. However I'm cautiously sharing these suggestions, because I don't really know what is the right thing to do. I avoid fluoride if I can, because that was the decision I made based on the information I found. And that decision might be totally based on a confirmation bias.

Yes, like various things cause thyroid issues, not just one thingc causes (or stops) cavities. I've stopped using fluoridated toothpaste too. If the government says it's good for you, usually means it isn't...
