Has anyone tried tenuate to help with weight loss?
Tenuate weight loss: Has anyone tried tenuate to... - Thyroid UK
Tenuate weight loss
The active ingredient is called Diethylpropion.
There is widespread advice not to take in those who are hyperthyroid.
And the FDA's product documentation is available here:
Are your thyroid levels and vitamin levels now at good level
How much levothyroxine are you taking, how much T3
Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)
On T3 - day before test split T3 as 2 or 3 smaller doses spread through the day with last dose 8-12 hours before test
what vitamin supplements are you taking.
As you have Hashimoto’s are you on strictly gluten free diet and/or dairy free diet
getting thyroid levels correct should help with weight management
SlowDragon says quite correctly that
getting thyroid levels correct should help with weight management
I think that the emphasis here is on the management of weight. Much as we would like, there is no ‘quick fix’ in spite of the fact that weight loss has become a multi million pound industry.
Optimal thyroid levels will help us to manage our weight but this relies on eating a good diet and getting exercise.
There is no ‘magic bullet’ I’m afraid. If there were I would regularly eat my way through a 200 g bag of chocolate covered raisins as I did last night 😩
I agree. I feel like I'm in a situation with my doctor that I may never actually reach optimal levels. I've been trying to lose weight for the past two years, but I've gained instead. Eating healthy, exercise. The extra weight has totally messed with my sense of self and esteem . I'm sure this sounds silly but it's true. So now I'm looking for a little extra help and thought I'd ask here if anyone had any experience with it before I started taking it.
It’s definitely a metabolic issue. A year ago, I decided to give T3 only a try. Yes I did lose 10 lbs quite quickly but I felt jittery and over medicated. When tested. my FT3 results were slightly over range.
It’s certainly never advisable to use thyroid hormones for weight loss. Once optimally medicated, we have to combine diet and manageable exercise to increase metabolic rate which will in turn ensure that calorific intake and expenditure are in balance.
That sounds so glib. It’s not easy but if we have good thyroid levels and optimum vitamin levels we should have sufficient energy and motivation to make a start
Thank you! I exercise at least 4 times a week and calorie count. The endo wanted to give me adipex but I didn't want to do that. I don't think she knows what optimal levels are lol. I know just enough to know I don't know anything about it. She has been willing to try things though but I feel like it falls on me to recommend the right thing and hope she goes for it.

Feeling like that is perfectly understandable, but please let it go because being a bit of a porker is happening for a reason. I suspect you will have to be your own detective. If you can't pinch your skin, maybe the extra weight is mucin?
Eating Healthy = ? I know Vegans who say that but for me anyway, they are not eating healthily.
Wow I wish id thought about just "letting it go". Lol
sss,
Being overweight through no fault of your own will reduce self esteem and is also unhealthy long term. Have you thought about optimising your thyroid meds through self medication?
Many of us have had to do this by buying meds from abroad. members share sources and admin will advise if sources are likely credible.
I have thought about it, but it seems overwhelming and I don't know how easy that is in the states. It is definitely something I will look into if I can't seem to get anywhere with my doctor. She has been willing to try the T3 on my last visit and I go again in a few weeks for updated labs. I just always have to present my case to her, and sometimes she says things that completely go against the advice I receive here. That always makes me so unsure because I am not an expert at all. It would be incredible if we could just trust that our doctors knew what they were doing lol. Thanks for the suggestion!
