Please post your latest blood test results along with the laboratory ranges, the numbers in brackets, and people will be able to make helpful suggestions.

Tiredmum,

I had unwanted weight loss when I was switched from T3 to Levothyroxine after RAI. I gained up to 3kg when off Levothyroxine for 4-5 weeks but lost it when Levothyroxine was resumed. I was advised to eat frequent small meals. I also found protein shakes helped me gain a little weight.

Post your results and ranges in a new question and we'll advise whether you are over medicated which can cause weight loss.

Thankyou clutter for your response I will try the small meals regularly and the protein shakes and I have to pick up my results this week so I'll post them then

How long have you been taking Antithyroid medicine? What Antithyroid medicine you were on? How long you had Graves' disease? Did you have RAI therapy? I'm diagnosed Graves' disease for five weeks. I lost weight, sweats, nervous, lack of sleep, urine frequently. Will take blood test next week to see if there are any improvement. Does RAI help to remove gravres disease and symptoms? Should I go for RAI or surgery if there are no improvement? I'm scared and I may get eye disease, diabetes, etc. because of Graves' disease. I'm new with this disease.

I was diagnosed April this year. The sweats and the shakes do stop after a while. I was on 30mg Carbimazole and have just reduced to 15mg. I get reasonable days and not so good days. Originally I was wide awake until 3 in the morning and then getting maybe 3hrs sleep. I still wake up several times a night. If you can nap at some point just do it. You have to learn to go with your body. If there's a day when you can't do anything, then don't. It will all still be there tomorrow.

lst863,

Please write a post of your own if you want to discuss Graves and hyperthyroidism. If you say whether you are taking Carbimazole and what dose members will be able to advise.

Carbimazole is usually prescribed for 12-18 months to regulate thyroid levels and then weaned off to try for remission. If remission fails you can opt to resume Carbimazole or to have thyroidectomy or RAI ablatement. If you have signs of thyroid eye disease it may be better to avoid RAI. Thyroidectomy or RAI will destroy your thyroid gland and stop you being hyperthyroid but it will not destroy Graves which can (not necessarily will) continue to attack the eyes and other organs. If you destroy your thyroid gland you will become hypothyroid and will need Levothyroxine replacement.

I didn't have Graves or hyperthyroidism. I had thyCa and RAI was to ablate remnant thyroid cells after thyroidectomy.

Hi Clutter with regards to blood test did you take Carbimazole after blood test rather than before? Does it make any difference?

Purple64,

I've never taken Carbimazole. I don't think it matters when you take it because Carbimazole blocks thyroid production so it won't raise FT4 or FT3 after taking it.

Thank you. I have always taken it after in case it affected the levels. If it blocks it maybe it shows a more accurate level of t4 than if you take meds before. I have no idea as I am quite new to all this 😃

Purple64,

I really don't know whether it matters. Ask your GP or endo next time you have a blood test.

Will do. Have to wait until September for endo that's 5 months since referral 🙄

Purple64,

Not enough endos. Usually GP's can access the endo for advice if required while you are waiting for an appointment.
