T4 21.1 pool

Pool? Is that a typo?

Did the receptionist just read the results out to you? Or did you get a print out? Because if you got a print-out, it would have a range on it - probably in brackets after the result. The result without the range doesn't mean anything.

Your TSH is obviously within the range, so that's why you were told the results were satisfactory. But, that is just an opinion, not fact. And, just a TSH and an FT4 doesn't give us the full picture. It could be that you have low FT3 which would account for your symptoms.

Do you have the reference ranges for each of those tests (numbers in brackets after your result number)? These are important as they vary from lab to lab.

What time of day was your blood test?

If you have low iron or ferritin then your thyroid hormone won't be working well. How long have you been supplementing iron and do you take it 4 hours away from your Levo? Taking it with orange juice can help it absorb better or anythin with vitamin C.

Many members are doing well with this iron product. threearrowsnutra.com/en-uk/...

Have you had any other vitamin levels tested? Let us know the results as GPs are happy with results that are too low for us.

When hypo we get low stomach acid which means we cannot absorb vitamins well from our food, regardless of a great diet. For thyroid hormone to work well we need OPTIMAL levels of vitamins. Have you recently or could you ask your GP to test levels of ferritin, folate, B12 & D3? Private tests are available, see link for companies offering private blood tests & discount codes, some offer a blood draw service at an extra cost. thyroiduk.org/help-and-supp...

There is also a new company offering walk in & mail order blood tests in London, Kent, Sussex & Surrey areas. Check to see if there is a blood test company near you. onedaytests.com/products/ul...

Only do private tests on a Monday or Tuesday to avoid postal delays.

It's ideal if you can always get the same brand of levo at every prescription. You can do this by getting GP to write the brand you prefer in the first line of the prescription. Many people find that different brands are not interchangeable.

Always take Levo on an empty stomach an hour away from food or caffeine containing drinks & other meds. Many people find taking it at bedtime works well for them.

Do you know if you had positive thyroid antibodies? Many with autoimmune thyroid disease aka Hashimoto's benefit from a gluten free diet. A smaller percentage of those also need to remove dairy from their diet to feel well. These are intolerances and will not show up on any blood test.

Recommended blood test protocol: Test at 9am (or as close as possible), fasting, last levo dose 24hrs before the blood draw & no biotin containing supplements for 3-7 days (Biotin can interfere with thyroid blood results as it is used in the testing process)? Testing like this gives consistency in your results and will show stable blood levels of hormone and highest TSH which varies throughout the day. Taking Levo just prior to blood draw can show a falsly elevated result and your GP/Endo might change your dose incorrectly as a result.

When you get your results, you can put them into this calculator to help you see exactly where they fall in the reference range. thyroid.chingkerrs.online/

Free T4 (fT4) 21.1 pmol/L (12 - 22) 91.0%

So you result at 91% of the range for FT4 means you could only really have a very small increase before you went over.

Your TSH is under 1 where most people feel well, but not everyone so we need to find out why you don't feel well at that level.

What the NHS doesn't test is FT3 and you will need to buy a private test to see where that is. If you buy one of the thyroid packages from a blood test company they usually include TSH, FT4 & FT3 + thyroid antibodies + ferritin, folate, B12 & D3.

You likely need to be supplementing low vitamin levels which will help you feel better and also help your body convert Levo into T3 the active hormone.
