Short Synacthen Result...

So my adrenals still have the ability to produce cortisol... now I need to go and re-read about it... I can't remember if this means my pituitary isn't putting out enough signal or my adrenals are too knackered to respond most of the time?

TiggerMe my adrenals are jealous of yours! This result looks like a signal problem - pituitary being lazy, they often are with thyroid disease as they are greedy, little T3 hogs!

What time was your test? Did you get ACTH? x

9am no ACTH

in reply toTiggerMe

It’s a low baseline for 9am, seems lazy pituitary! How much T3 do you take and what are your thyroid labs atm?

Yep, seems to be my norm 296 - 271 - 263 over the last 2 years, 15mcg T3 first thing, just waiting for my latest results, I had a jolly weekend peeing and spitting in pots and a blood draw yesterday 🙃thought I'd compare myself to 2 years ago when I first wised up a little...

Thinking about it I was on 10mg first thing and 5mg 2pm when this test was taken, results from three weeks before were 47% fT4 and 95% fT3

I think my pituitary is certainly a weak link my TSH has never made it to double figures!

But then this ties in with the low zinc/ albumin thingy

Ah, that is lining up a little then! You could be a good candidate for CT3M x

Oh no!... tbf I'm often up for a wee so it could be a go'er

in reply toTiggerMe

👍 yes I’d say worth a try… feed the pituitary when it’s waking up and see if it likes it 🙂

I need to go read... would you keep T3 and HC together?

I should get a new cortisol level soon so it will be interesting to see if changing to all T3 first thing will have changed it 😉

in reply toTiggerMe

I wouldn’t take the HC at same time as T3, I’d take it at normal waking time. Paul says not to use HC for CT3M. If you took HC at CT3M dosing I’d imagine you could run the risk of lowering your signal more because negative feedback loop would think “oh it’s all sorted” and be even lazier. For CT3M to work it needs to be 10mcg minimum, so you should be good 👍

Brilliant thanks 🤗 I shall go read up

So I really ought to drop the HC assuming my adrenals are up for the job.... just rambling need to go read 🙃

in reply toTiggerMe

It’s hard to say, if I were you I would probably wean the HC as 5mg is a baby dose, but you could wean it as you start the CT3M

in reply to

TiggerMe I meant I’d keep the 5mg! But you could wean as you do CT3M x

why was you put on HC if your adrenal’s are functioning as they should. I’ve read that if you take steroids your own steroids/adrenals won’t work as well as they could prior to using steroids. People using inhalers can have low cortisol output.

I started on glandulars as my cortisol levels are low and swapped to a low dose of hydrocortisone whilst working out what is going on... which works well... it would seem my adrenals work with the right stimulation so it would seem it is a lazy pituitary is more the issue
