Question please re expired T3

Hi Everyone,

It's been a while since my last post here, in this awesome community.

If you're reading this, I hope your summer is going well.

My question please, is regarding expired T3 medication.

Does anyone know, how long T3 is active for, after its expiry date?

Unfortunately, I have 4 packets of Thybon, 100mg, 100 tablets per box, that expired at the end of April.

I was fortunate enough to get a script from my Endo (who has now moved-on from my local hospital) and the pharmacy filled the script.

At the time I was relieved to receive the T3, but now, I wish that I had requested a partial order purchase.

Lately, I'm having some minor hypo symptoms, and, I wondered if it's the expired medication, or the extreme heat causing fatigue.

The Internet 'says' not to take expired medication, but it's over €200-worth of T3, which is not easy to find, as everyone on this forum knows.

I hope someone can advise me.

Thank you,

Shield

I have no experience of Thybon Henning brand but I have used Unipharma T3 a good two years past it's expiry date with no loss of potency or any other problem. As long as your T3 has been kept in it's original packaging, unopened, in a cool dark place, it may well be fine. I keep my stock of T3 in a Lock & Lock box with some of those little silica gel pouches, in a cool part of my kitchen where the cupboard is on the outside wall. Never had a problem.

Hi SeasideSusie,

This is good to know, thank you.

I keep my T3 in a dark place, unopened, but at the moment it's probably not cool due to an extremely hot summer.

I have tried a number of brands, and, I really like Thybon.

Thanks again for replying.

Take care :)

There is a section on expiry dates in my Vade Mecum document.

It attempts to illustrate numerically why the expiry dates are important but do not represent a cliff edge.

(Some medicines behave differently and expiry dates and storage conditions are far more critical.)

helvella's Vade Mecum document is available here:

helvella - Vade Mecum for Thyroid

The term vade mecum means:

1. A referential book such as a handbook or manual.

2. A useful object, constantly carried on one’s person.
