Most of the time I feel floaty and a little dizzy. But Doctor basically just said it’s all to do with the thyroid, not much help really! Yes I think I’m going to have to pay privately then I might no what’s actually going on. Do doctors acknowledge private tests?
They are more likely to acknowledge tests done by Monitor My Health as it is an NHS lab although there is no guarantee and if anything did crop up on a private blood test they may just want to rerun their own tests.
You will discover that the intricacies of getting well with thyroid disease are a foreign language to the NHS.
You may have a low FT3 and/or low vitamin results. Ferritin is a frequent offender for lightheadedness.
What were your other vitamin results?
Are you following the recommended test protocol which is really important? Recommended blood test protocol: Test at 9am (or as close as possible), fasting, last levo dose 24hrs before the blood draw, no biotin containing supplements for 3-7 days (Biotin can interfere with thyroid blood results as it is used in the testing process)?
Testing like this gives consistency in your results and will show stable blood levels of hormone and highest TSH which varies throughout the day. Taking Levo just prior to blood draw can show a falsely elevated result and your GP/Endo might change your dose incorrectly as a result.
Request/politely insist GP test folate, B12, ferritin and vitamin D
Or test privately alongside thyroid
Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)
Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins
