Hi, if I were to start T3 medication how long would the typical time be for a follow-up consultation by a functional doctor? And following this how often would this be? Thanks very much!

How Often Should a Functional Doctor Review Thyroid Medication?

Are you talking about NHS, private or functional doctor?
It depends on if it is an NHS or private endocrinologist or functional doctor. And it also depends on your relationship with the doctor. For example on my trial of adding t3 liothyronine the NHS endocrinologist gave me a years trial even though the trial period is usually 3 to 6 months . I had been a patient of the endo for many years. I had appointments and blood test every 4 months or so.
However because it took years to find my doses and get stable blood results I ended up seeing the NHS endo for nearly 3 years with appointments and blood tests every 4 to 6 months.
Now that my liothyronine is prescribed by my NHS GP I get an annual review as a matter of course but can have additional blood tests if I feel my levels are out.
I started seeing a private endocrinologist this year. I had first appointment, second one 8 weeks later, the next one is 3 months and after that, if all is well, we go to telephone appointments every 3 months with a review once a year.
Hope this helps.
In my experience, my NHS GP tends to review my bloods annually.
I also see a private endo for T3 & he used to see me annually but has recently suggested I see him 6 monthly. (Not sure why-money?! 🥴)
my Endo put me on t3/4 combo 7 months ago and I have not seen him again ! I write to his secretary and he writes back to me ignoring my symptoms and reducing my t3 on one high TSH test. The private test a week before was well in range for T3.
The reduction was by too much for me so I have gone back on NDT and was planning to tell him at the next appointment , if I ever get one!
