I am currently taking 100mcg levothyroxine, I've been on thyroxine for about 20 years and 100mcg for around 4 years.
Two weeks ago I started taking Chaga mushroom capsules and have noticed for the last week, I seem to be having symptoms of hyperthyroidism. Sweating all night and sleepless nights.
I know we are currently in the middle of a heatwave (UK) but I've not experienced the amount of sweating and agitation at night as I am now.
Has anyone experienced this after Chaga. I'm not sure whether its a coincidence but I have read that Chaga enhances thyroid function. There is little information on-line about Chaga and thyroid medication.
I am going to see the doc next week for a blood test

I take several mushroom powders and chaga is one of them. I began having bad night sweats that started sometime after taking mushroom powders, but my cause was due to other autoimmune diseases that I knew nothing about until recently. Autoimmune Pancreatitis type 1 and Sjogrens. Once I removed the triggers " gluten, dairy, added sugars and fats", my night sweats stopped. I still take my mushroom powders. If I stray from my low FODMAP/gluten, dairy and added sugar diet, I get night sweats again, amongst many other issues.
I’d be inclined to stop the Chaga see if symptoms stop, if they do then restart a week or so later and if it happens again it’s mostly likely the Chaga… but no harm in checking thyroid.
*update… just briefly read a bit of general information on Chaga on internet (not claiming it is correct) …it states it can lower blood sugar. I’m aware dips in blood sugar can cause night sweats and agitation … maybe also ask for HbA1c when checking thyroid.
Is this an area your are familiar with, do you have any blood sugar issues?
This is an area I have a bit of experience in personally, as although my blood sugars normal I have had dips in the night leading to sweats … I’m on hrt and it’s not peri/menopause symptom ( and aware balance of progesterone/oestrogen can cause this) but if my blood sugar goes high after large meal or just had few days of not watching what I eat it can come crashing down whilst I’m asleep, I wake agitated and sweating… I’ve had oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) and I do respond ok so no insulin resistance (yet) so also not diabetic (yet) either.
I have had this reactive hypoglycaemic type of problems on and off for 40yrs (so not menopausal at all) and been told my blood sugar is the higher side of normal and these episodes maybe linked to higher blood sugar, so I just watch my diet now… to keep it as stable as I can.
Just another area to look at if you haven’t already… blood sugar can be exacerbated even by stress so although these adaptogens are usually used to calm they obviously do have some potency to alter things.
