how long does it take for them to get your thyroid medicated right

I had a stroke last year due to an over active thyroid,

It’s nearly been a year, the stroke caused atril fibulation.

I had my heart re started (cardioversion in February this year it lasted four weeks!!!)

I’ve just had another cardioversion 10 days ago and I’m already back in af!!

I’m on a year waiting list to have ablation,

The cardiologist has said he wants to get my thyroid under control before the heart ablation because there would be a high chance it wouldn’t be successful otherwise.

I know while you hearts in a.f it’s working twice as hard and it stretches the heart.

So I can’t afford to wait for these docs to figure out the thyroid!!!

As it stands i have bloods every 6 weeks. Under/over/under/over etc etc

the big question will they ever get it right and when?

Thanks rich

Rich it would be better if you responded to your first post. It's confiding having two posts running at the same time.

Where you say you stopped taking your Carbimazole

With Graves’ disease it’s ESSENTIAL you take your medication everyday

Get a weekly pill dispenser. Take dose everyday

Then get bloods retested 6 weeks later

Test early morning

Meanwhile request GP test vitamin D, folate and ferritin levels

Are you still taking daily B12 supplement

Propylthiouracil

It’s called PTU for short

Are you finding PTU better?

previous post a month ago you said in a reply that you stopped taking Carbimazole for a few weeks

I stopped the carmibasole a few weeks ago because of the side effects (itchy legs, and nit sleeping because it felt like some one was shaking and poking my mattress .I’m now currently over active and waiting for the doctor to get an answer of thyroid people what to do next!

Bloods should be retested regularly

Including TSH, Ft4 and Ft3 plus folate, ferritin, vitamin D and B12

Various nutrient deficiencies can have a bad effect on the heart.

Optimising iron, ferritin, vitamin B12 and folate might help.

Personal anecdote : When I had very low iron it gave me chest pain and triggered tachycardia. I managed to get rid of the chest pain and reduce the severity of the tachycardia by improving my iron.

I have no other suggestions except that you might want to search for "natural remedies for atrial fibrillation". Whether it would do any good, I have no idea, but it couldn't hurt to do some research.
