help please on changing adrenal medication

could someone please help me regarding the increasing from one adrenal medication, to a new one.

my previous adrenal supplement was Nutri Adrenal and I’m now on Nutricology. I have switched slowly. But find that as I’m now on the level I think I need to on of the Nutricology ( if I go any higher I get night time palpitations.)

However I still have some of the Nutri Adrenal left, but don’t feel strong enough in myself to drop the remaining amount. I’m getting very anxious and shaky and nervous as I don’t know which way to turn. Please could someone help me. I’d be very very grateful.

thank you.

I think that you are over thinking your change of make and dose. If you are suffering shaking and palpitations, it might be wise to drop the level of supplementation and retest your cortisol/DHEA with Regenerus to see what your current results are. Being anxious about your dose is counterproductive. Cut yourself some slack and either drop or stop your dose until you have your new results.

I had a Regenerous Saliva test three weeks ago, to check whether I was overactive or under active as guessing doesn’t help you at all. Unfortunately I can’t put my Regenerous graph onto here, as I have a problem with my iPad , in that regard, at present. My AM result is good , but I drop at noon quite a bit( just into the light blue,) but straight up into the green part of the graph for the rest of the day, and evening. I think my physical symptoms are to do with low thyroid, and I’ve been advised not to put up my NDT until I have finished my adrenal switching, or rather dropping the amount of Nutri Adrenal I no longer need. What I would love to find out is does anyone know of a product that is a good support for Adrenals ? And not an adaptogen , as that is what gave me low adrenals in the first place !

It’s probably worth doing DATS - daily average temperatures to work out how your adrenals actually are instead of guessing. Adrenals are hard to read while you’re taking supps as you can’t really do testing while on things.

Do the same dosing for 5 days and then take your DATS, this should help you work out if you need more or less xx

as you can see from my reply above I did a saliva test which wasn’t too bad . It’s on the way up.( apart from the noon result). But I do get a tendency whilst increasing with the glandulars - to get a warm , pink face and neck , when under pressure. And I’ve never had that before. So l don’t know if you can help with that ?

in reply to C70rol

sorry I didn’t see your saliva above. If I were in your position I would do DATS.

o.k. I’ll give it a try. How many times a day should I take the temperature ? And how big a variance should I see ?

Thank you for your help. !

This should explain it better than I can 😊

thank you, I will do the temperature trial. Thanks for your chart.

I am struggling with anxiety in recent days as I don’t know if my Nutricology (Adrenal Glandular) is too strong for me, as I’m getting a red face and red neck, (which is from the anxiety.)I’ve tried doing a raise in the Nutricology twice in the last week and got night time Palpitations. So not sure what to do now. I am sure I need to increase my cortisol, but having problems ???

in reply to C70rol

I think it would be good if you do dats. If you are having a bad reaction to the adrenal supplements then perhaps try reducing it x

Hi , thanks very much for contacting me. I am interested in what you have to say and have been taken two DATS. Not exactly on the times on you charts ,but for example I took two when my times are at their lowest and they were :- 12 noon- 35.9 today and 2pm 36.2, yesterday I was going to do some more later on today, but wanted to say first, that I had palpitations last night, and not much sleep so feel weaker and lower today. I also had palpitations two nights ago. So it’s not a straightforward week this week.

But I’d love to know if you can have night time palpitations if your cortisol is too low. I have stopped increasing my Adrenal glandulars for a while now as I thought I could be going too high . But on my Saliva graph I had three results in the green and not too bad , but my noon result was touching the light blue. So I’d love to know why that was.

I don’t think my body likes the Nutricology, but it’s what I was advised to switch to when coming off the Nutri Adrenal.

Also I would love to take a supplement that would bolster the adrenals. I took Ashwaghanda many years ago from DrP, plus ginger drops and I was on them for a few years, but they dropped my adrenals. So not sure if I should try them again ?

Thanks for listening to me and I really hope you can help me ?

hi :)

Nighttime palpitations were definitely an adrenal symptom for me. Did you test your saliva while on the adrenal glandular?

C70rol profile image
C70rol in reply to

yes, it was only three weeks ago. So you are saying that I’m having the nighttime palpitations because I need to take more ? I thought I was getting them because putting them meant they were too much for me. !!!! I can’t tell you how many people have told me, that my symptoms mean that I’m taking too much. Yet I know and feel quite weak and wobbly, brain fog and dizzy today, with two lots of Palpitations on the trot.

in reply to C70rol

no - I’m not saying you are getting palpitations because you are not taking enough. I’m saying when I add my adrenal crisis symptoms I got palpitations. I can’t say about your situation unfortunately.

To be clear - yes you were taking glandular when you did the saliva cortisol test?

C70rol profile image
C70rol in reply to

yes I was taking glandulars when I did the saliva cortisol test. I wanted to see how far I had got throughout the graph

Oh! I hope I didn’t offend you ? I obviously worded my question unclearly. I was trying to find out whether your adrenal crisis was with low adrenals or high adrenals?

By the way I took three Dats today:-

10am….36.1 12pm….35.9. 2pm….36.2. 5pm…..36.2

in reply to C70rol

No you didn’t offend me!! 🙂 sorry if I sounded blunt 🙏 so an adrenal crisis is when cortisol is extremely low. But I couldn’t say if your palps are from too much or too little. Annoyingly the saliva cortisol needs to be minimum of 2 weeks off cortex extract or steroids, as you want to know your baseline on which you can build.

Dats are usually 3 hours apart, and taken for 5 days in a row. Then you make an average with each of the days collected readings, so eventually you end up with 5 readings to compare 🙂

As well as regular temperature checking, you could try an adrenal cocktail

thanks for your help Gingernut.

I have started drinking adrenal cocktails in the last week and added some pea protein powder to it. So I’m going to continue with that regime for about 2-3 times a week. My temperature seems to be fairly steady through the day except about 5ish if I’ve had a busy day.

But I think that’s anxiety as my face and neck goes red, and yes I am very tired at that time of day. But the flushing does worry me.

I recently re-introduced adrenavive after a five month break because I wanted to test if adding would help keep things calm whilst I attempt to increase Metavive but I’ve really upset my sleep and I’m feeling anxious now. It’s for one of two reasons I think. Either I’m taking too much or I don’t need it at all. Have reduced it and now waiting to see how long before/if things calm. May have to reduce further or stop

Don’t know enough about adrenals to advise except to say now you’re now taking both, it could be too much. If these upsetting symptoms have just appeared since starting Nutricology then a series of timely reductions in it could help. Dr P advised me to take adrenavive with food at breakfast and again with lunch, so if you’re taking it on an empty stomach, food may make it more tolerable

I’m wondering if your flushing and anxiety are because you’re taking too much - I don’t really know what else it could be. It’s all trial and error. I wish you luck with whatever way you go. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable about adrenal problems will come along with better suggestions.

thank you for being so kind. I thought it might have been too much adrenal med being the reason, which was why I got a Saliva test. But I could definitely do with some more on the graph…. And the amazing thing is I’m only flushing at 5 ish on any one day, and that’s a good point on the Saliva graph. I did try putting some adrenal med down on one day and felt very weak and tired. So didn’t do that again. Curious !

Thanks.
