I have Hashimoto’s and take both Levothyroxine and Liothyronine. I check my levels regularly and am well controlled on medication.
I am in my mid 50’s and since menopause I have struggled with high blood pressure likely triggered by a drop in estrogen. I am fit and fairly slim. I used to be a runner but since having HBP I walk at least 45 minutes everyday.
I have tried to lower my BP naturally and it worked well for almost a year. However, it’s now stubbornly stuck at a moderate level and needs lowering. My GP has prescribed a low dose of Candesartan.
I would love to hear other people’s experiences of taking Candesartan with thyroid medications. Also, timing of the medications and whether you experienced any side effects.
Many thanks for taking the time to read this post.

Thanks for responding. My thyroid levels are optimal and I don’t have any other symptoms. I get my thyroid levels checked every couple of months and keep a close eye on them. I take both thyroxine and liothyronine.
The high blood pressure seems to have been triggered by the menopause transition.
Have you tried Hawthorn Extract that's what I use. read about it 8 months ago when my BP started to rise. The GP wanted to start me on Med but they made me feel ill. I goggled the natural way and was surprised to find that in Germany GP's prescribe Hawthorn Extract for high BP. Anyway, I take two a days and my BP is back to normal and has been for months. Hawthorn has been used for over one hundred years for this.
Thank you for replying to me. I have used Hawthorn for about a year and it has kept my blood pressure in the normal range. Unfortunately, it just stopped working a couple of months ago and it no longer keeps my BP in the safe zone. I think my estrogen dropped again and it wasn’t strong enough to hold it down even with a high dose. I’m very disappointed but I haven’t given up with the natural approach. I just need to get my Bp down because I’m feeling unwell and quite anxious.
I take two a day it's Solgar it's more expensive but the best one I have tried. If you are on two you could add another one and see if it works. I had always been lucky with my health in fact perfect health right up until my sixties so I cannot complain, now not so good, but try the natural route. When I was younger nobody talked about things like estrogen but if it drops that's not good. I hope that you feel better soon.
thank you. Apart from my thyroid problems, which are well controlled, I too have always been in good health. I have always been physically active, slim, healthy diet etc. So the blood pressure issue has really taken me and my GP by surprise. My mother and my grandmother found themselves with elevated BP during the menopause transition. I guess there is a strong genetic component which is difficult to eradicate even with a healthy lifestyle. I might try the Solgar Hawthorn once my BP has stabilised a bit at a lower level. I’ll let you know if it works for me.
