TSH LEVEL

Justwannabemeagain profile image

I had new labs done, in January my TSH was 1.3, now they are 53.9 wtf? I also recently found out that I have Hashimoto's. I'm pretty nervous about this I've only been taking 25 mg levothyrexine for about 3 years and now they upped it to 50 yesterday.

25mcgs Levo is just a starter dose and nowhere near what you likely need to actually function well. Its also a small starter dose for the elderly or people with heart issues so 50mcg where you are now is a starter dose for generally otherwise healthy people.

Usually you start on 50mcgs and then after 6-8 weeks get bloods done and then increase upwards in stages, repeating bloods every 6-8 weeks. So that is what you should be doing now.

To feel well people need their TSH at or just under 1.

Dave you recently had bloods run for yourr key vitamin levels - ferritin, folate, B12 & D3?

What are you supplementing with?

Do you always get the same brand Levo at every prescription?

Many with autoimmune thyroid disease aka Hashimoto's benefit from a gluten free diet. A smaller percentage of those also need to remove dairy from their diet to feel well. These are intolerances and will not show up on any blood test. Worth trying a strictly gluten free diet to start with.

Not what you're looking for?
