Vitamin D supplementation.

I have finally got my nine weeks done on no change to thyroid meds after a period of changing meds too quickly for my body to cope properly. I will post the full results when I have had a proper chance to study them. Trying to understand them for myself.

Since January (mental issues and big physicals) brought about by changing meds too quickly, my supplementation has also got into a mess.

My Vit D levels (which were originally noted early by SeasideSusie and she gave advice) have rapidly reduced over three months of not supplementing properly. My excuse is I lost the plot.

I am sure the lack is worsening my muscles and I realise a lifetime of working indoors etc has probably not helped.

How quickly and what dosage can I safely take to increase my level.

Originally the level was about 49. It went up to about 118 but has now fallen back to 79.

I know SeasideSusie is unwell at the moment. Get well soon SeasideSusie!

So can anyone else please advise if she is not available?

Thank you.

How long did it take for your levels to drop like that?

Three months. I think it’s a big pointer to my muscle stuff.

5,000 IU is a dose people often use for maintenance, myself included. I'm taking 10,000 IU for a short while though since my levels are also quite low as of a few weeks ago (47). I'll probably do this for 1-2 months.I would recommend D3+K2 together to be safe.

Yes along the way my D3 ran out so I did not even have a box to compare my previous dosage! I suppose I thought I would remember since I had been taking it for a good while. Do you double up on your K2 as well?

Thank you for doing that. I could not see the ‘buttons’ to press on the WRITE page to highlight SeasideSusie !

I would suggest 5000iu daily

Retest in 2 months

Then it’s trial and error what maintenance dose you need

Personally I prefer to use Better You Vitamin D mouth spray

very effective as it avoids poor gut function.

There’s a version made that also contains vitamin K2 Mk7.

One spray = 1000iu

are folate, B12 and ferritin levels ok

Thank you. Folate , B12 good. Ferritin way over as usual. In fact anything ‘inflammatory’ is high but will post as soon as I can get my head screwed on. Otherwise it will be a very long post.

Ferritin up to 600 is considered “normal “ post menopause and over 60 years old

But GP could/should check iron isn’t also high

79nmol/L = 31.6ng/L

Vit D Council suggests that you need 2,500iu D3 daily to reach 125nmol/L (50ng/L) or 4,600iu to reach 150nmol/L (60ng/L).

As your level has dropped considerably I'd be inclined to go for the higher dose and round it up to 5,000iu which is the cheapest to buy, and you could take that 6 or 7 days a week.

K2-MK7 stays at 90-100mcg for up to 10,000iu D3 so no need to increase that.

Thank you for the good wishes, and HowNowWhatNow 😊😷
