Roma T3 brand

I have been on t4/t3 combo for 2 years. My t3 was labelled morningside labs and after getting my dose to 15mcg i felt great. However a couple of months or so ago, my t3 was changed to Roma brand. As they are capsules i cant half them so have been taking 20mcg. I am more tired, less active and have come out in a rash on my chin. Any thoughts as to wht they were changed and if anyone else has had this experience?

I have had to request that my prescription states liothyronine TABLETS. That way the pharmacy can continue to supple me with Morningside which I also split. The prescribing surgery had started writing liothyronine CAPSULES on the prescription and the pharmacy were bound to supply Roma capsules.

You need to contact whoever writes your prescription and explain that Roma can't be split.

Roma can work out cheaper depending on the quantity prescribed this is why my GP surgery started writing capsules.

Lol, i suspected it was to do with price. I cant get rid of this rash on my chin, its been there since shortly after starting Roma caps

Have you considered taking the Roma out of the capsules?

Described in the Patient Information Leaflet.

I know that won't change the dose, but at least one member couldn't tolerate the porcine gelatin of the capsules.

Maybe even for the time it takes from now to actually getting the tablets again?

Earlier today, 6 hours ago, I posted a related question! I wondered if anyone had experienced differences between the brands of liothyronine. The reason I asked is that I feel less well on Roma capsules, and wondered if it was simply a coincidence.

Staffsgirl Hi

I was initially prescribed tbybon henning privately. When I switched to nhs I was given Morningside. I haven't been nearly as well on Morningside as I was on thybon but nhs can't get that. This time round I picked up sigmapharm and I'm about a week in and so far I'm a little better than with Morningside! I keep hoping it will continue! And I felt awful on teva t4! It took weeks to recover from four weeks on that!

GP’s and pharmacies have been told to move patients to Liothyronine capsules because they are cheaper

Cost varies considerably depending on what dose tablets you were getting

How were you taking your 15mcg Morningside T3

Were you prescribed 20mcg and cutting into 1/4’s

And taking as 3 x 5mcg?

Or were you prescribed 5mcg tablets

Current prices

You will see 20mcg tablets are the cheapest option

20mcg. I took one and cut another one in half. I took lalf at night with my levo and one in the morning. I suspected they changed them due to cost

20mcg tablets are CHEAPER than capsules

Many people find capsules don’t suit them compared to tablets

if you were taking one 20mcg tablet in morning and half another 20mcg in afternoon that’s 30mcg per day

If you were prescribed Morningside 10mcg tablets these are £152 per 28 tablets

so 1 and 1/2 per day = £201 per 28 days

Morningside 20mcg tablets only £50 per 28 tablets

Cutting into 1/4’s to take 3 x 1/4 per day = £37.50 per 28 days

Roma Capsules 10mcg plus 5mcg capsules

10mcg = £65 per 28

5mcg = £55 per 28

£120 per 28 tablets

Sorry, its 20mcg a day, 10 at night and 10 in the morning

so get 20mcg Morningside tablets prescribed and cut in half

20mcg tablets £50 per 28 days- easy to cut in half

2 x 10mcg capsules £130 per 28 days

Some ICBs (used to be called CCGs) 'in their wisdom' brought in policies saying patients had to have Roma 20mcg capsules because when they first came in they were a bit cheaper than 20mcg tablets. Absolutely nuts to set a policy on this as prices change all the time.

Currently, the 20mcg tablets are cheaper than capsules.

They're all trying to save every penny, to the detriment of patients.

Request that your prescriptions say 'tablets' or 'not capsules' so you get what suits you best.
