Thyroid Disorders (well, most of 'em)

just posting this so i can find it again .

msdmanuals.com/en-gb/profes... MSD manuals/ professional/endocrine-and-metabolic-disorders/thyroid-disorders/overview-of-thyroid-function .

Contains some very useful subsections on the various different forms of thyroiditis, hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, nodules , and cancers.

I found it pretty useful (as long as you can ignore the usual guff about low TSH / subclinical hypo in patients on Levo)

I’m starting to feel like I need a separate computer to store all the useful stuff 🤗

Just for future reference, to search a website with no search option or a very poor one, type in the following to any search engine e.g. Bing, Google, DuckDuckGo

site:healthunlocked.com/thyroiduk iodine

You have to start your search with "site:" (without the quotes), then substitute the website address with the site you want to search and the word(s) or phrase you want to search for.

Note that any post which has been restricted to "Community only" on HU won't come up in the search listing.

It also doesn't list anything from other forums or websites where parts of it have been set up as "members only".

Hope that makes sense.

Not "all of then" I'm afraid tattybogle

And yes, there is some " guff"

I'm not sure that I'd be using this as a reliable source of information.

Caveat lector!

yes you're right i wrote that title in a bit of a hurry the other night , rather than listing them.

it could do with a better title and a bigger 'guff ' warning .

On this subject ( not all of them) I can't see what Ive got mentioned ,namely Disease Related Supression of TSH .Here you get supressed t4 BUT also tsh not elevated .Due to something called Hysteresis which Diogenese pointed to me. It is a consequence of an earlier episode of bad hypERthyroid or thyrotoxicosis ( "Hashi- hyper" caused by anti tpo antibodies) which is treated with an extended period of "block and replace" therapy .All of this results in a blocking off of the upper range of tsh .So when the presence of anti tpo antibodies eventually progresses to a reduction in thyroxine production ,it doesn't show up as elevated tsh ( because this top range is blocked off) . With the NHS " protocol" of only looking at tsh , the GPs don't "clock" the low t4 .I had a situation where my t4 was 40% below min range but tsh not elevated, so I was refused treatment by NHS for well over 5 years . Rant over ,but I just don't want others to suffer as I did and still am .

I would like to know if anyone else has this experience .Also any articles on it .I have a couple but the more the better so I can try to explaine it yo GP. Psychiatrists know about it but not GPs or Endocrinologists .

Please rant. Tythrop ....I do it all the time!

Yes, totally agree, so much is neglected/ overlooked/ misunderstood about thyroid disease by the people who are supposed to have the answers.

They had no idea what was wrong with me either...a form of Thyroid Hormone Resistance

This forum is a life saver!

Suggest you write a new post re Disease Related Supression of TSH. I would be surprised if someone here hasn't had a similar experience to you
