Hi all,
What’s your thoughts/experience on compounded desiccated thyroid (pig)?
Thyroid_mum, your profile says you're in the UK. Compounded thyroid medications are not the norm here, so most members won't have any experience to offer. You've previously mentioned taking compounded T3 too. What is your reason for going down the compounded route?
Hi RedApple
I get really bad palpitations on the 17.5mcg compound Slow release T3, but not on previous dose of 15mcg. I tested it over the weekend.
My endo asked me when I felt my best and I said when I was on Levo and desiccated (forefront) which I was buying in from the US. Long story short, there was an issue with supply and I tried t3 instant release with Levo but had a lot of anxiety. Moved onto slow release but now getting palpitations so I said I wanted to try go back onto T3 instant release as I believe not many succeed on slow release.
My endo suggested compounded desiccated as it will be readily available and it won’t have issues like other desiccated with bad batches 🤷🏼♀️
I assume you’ve already tried ordinary Natural Dessicated Thyroid brands such as Armour or Erfa? How did you get on with those?
Hello Thyroid-Mum :
I think once you know your dose on NDT a compounded capsule, free of the fillers used in making the tablets probably the most pure form of taking this thyroid hormone replacement option.
All the reading I've done around treating with NDT suggests slowly building up the dose on 1/4 grain increments over a period of weeks and then waiting 6-8 weeks for this dose to bed in and settle in the body.
Having said all that I know of someone in a different country being switched from 175mcg T4 directly to a capsuled NDT at what is presumed the right dose - so this has only just happened so the jury will be out for around 6-8 weeks to allow this compounded NDT to bed and settle in the body.
