gave up daily yoga for 2 weeks - never again!

I have been a latecomer to daily yoga as I am at the older end of this community but it has been restorative and have been very motivated for the past 6 months to maintain a very regular routine

For a host of reasons I stopped for past 2 weeks and have now restarted

The impact so great that defies logic - it is like I have stopped taking Levo and supplements together -lost body warmth, more lethargy, loss of mood and decent digestion - crazy really

I am fully back in the swim but scarey to me how incredibly dependent I am now on this for life really

for non yoga practitioners this will all seem a bit baffling - but I always try to be honest here

Do you do an online yoga class?

Any you can recommend to members

I have been using the app Inner Dimension TV. It’s 15$a month. The main instructors are Lauren Ekstrom and Travis Eliot - they have videos on you tube too. The app has great sections on yin yoga, restorative yoga and gentle yoga. There’s lots of power yoga too but I haven’t tried that!

I have dreadful posture from decades hunched over pc and calf issues from years of marathon training so what works really well for me is

EMI Wong 10 minute back posture realignment

Then

mady Morrison 15 minute daily stretch - the most sumptuous music you have ever heard

Doing 2 together each morning in under 30 mins works really well - the music though makes a massive help to avoid boredom in repeating daily

like you I find the effects of yoga amazing. It was while doing my yoga practice I first became aware something wasn’t quite right and I subsequently got my Graves Diagnosis. Nowadays, I do Yin Yoga as it is more age appropriate - I’m 77 - and it is mainly floor exercises and very relaxing. I do a 90 min.session a week and really feel stiff if I miss a week. There are many good teachers on YouTube, all free. My favourite at the moment is the yin yoga classses with Andrew and Vanessa at Yogi Moksha. Chair yoga is also good for beginners.

love yoga - and I’ve missed a few days and am starting to feel it. I only do 20 mins a day because then I can’t (usually) pretend I’ve no time for it. But at the end of the 20 minutes the difference in my flexibility, and reduction in pain, is amazing.

I feel exactly the same about Pilates. Taking part in both physical and online classes has massively helped my physical and mental health. 🧘‍♀️

Danielj1,

And isn’t it a wonderfully reassuring feeling knowing it’s always available,  providing comfort, and belonging, stability and safety, flexibility, increased tone, improved respiration/energy, allowing time out’ and when we recoup with the world every single time we find we have ‘grown’. 🧘‍♀️😊

Couldn't agree with you more, certainly the best thing I have ever done, been at it about 12 years, and like you if I have to have a break I feel it. Also I love the after class social coffee and chat with like minded yoga friends. A real investment in my mental and physical health.

Good for you. I started Yoga aged 31 now 65 years old. Practising most days and feeling great too, I had a customer who taught it and I started too. For the first time in my life I have stopped my practise because of the problems with my thyroid medication. I intend to get well again and restart. I know that it's more fashionable in the west now but it's a great thing to do. Because I have been doing it for some many years I believe it has helped my body to cope with all the stress that I have had lately.
