My 24 hour urine ph is 1.0 which appears to be acidic. Does anyone know the cause?Has anyone ever received any treatment for acidic urine please?

I hope not. Hydrochloric acid has a pH of 1.6 and nitric acid 1.08. I dread to think of what your pee does to the toilet bowl!

I think there must be a mistake somewhere.

See attached test results Jim states 1.00!

Hi jimh111,

I was wondering if it was a 24 hour urine test for phosphate levels that Topaz21 had?

Hi Topaz21,

I'm just wondering if the test you had done was for phosphate levels in your urine and not acidity?

Just said ph 1.00

Hedgeree Could well be phosphate as the range is appropriate southtees.nhs.uk/services/p... .

Yes that's what I thought. Also wouldn't a urine ph test be via dipstick method?

I'd be surprised to see acidity written as ph - rather than pH. Not impossible, of course, but less likely as pH is so ingrained in chemistry and medicine.

Also, was there a fullstop after as in "ph."?

Hi helvella,

Best redirect to Topaz21 as they had the test done.

I was just trying to help work out what it actually means from the information that they have posted.

wow it does say pH 1.00 that’s super acidic, I’d query that with the lab as logically it doesn’t seem right, you would be burning through the waste pipe plastic etc.

I found this article (amongst lots of other ones that seemed a bit like internet churn) rnceus.com/ua/uaph.html

Hopefully you can get some answers. What was the reason for the test, are you having kidney symptoms?

I have Ulcerative Colitis & take Mesalazine & Famotidine & get burning acid type pain in my stomach. I've emailed Endocrinologist who requested tests for advice & may contact Gastro depending upon reply from Endo

I just googled side effects of those two and I think you are on the right track there. The first can give you stomach pain, the second you aren’t supposed to take more than 2 weeks unless medically advised to (red flag) and has contraindications for kidneys and mentions urinary stuff in the side effects.

Are you hypothyroid? We often have low stomach acid not high, this combination could be causing more problems for you than it solves. My low stomach acid has been kicked by dose increases in T4, gaps after meals, dairy free, betaine with pepsin, apple cider vinegar with meals. I still have the odd IBS day but so much better. Colitis is also autoimmune isn’t it. Hope you get the answers you need and feel well soon 🌱

Hi Topaz21,

You must feel terrible with all those health issues. Hope both the endo and gastro get in contact soon and you find the reasons for why your urine is so acidic.

Best wishes.

Thanks for confirming with that image.

I've had a look around and haven't found much of use. The link below has a little.

Definitely not something to be ignored.

Thank you for looking. I take vitamin c & Diuretics perhaps these may contribute ?

helvellaAdministrator in reply toTopaz21

Definitely possible! That is, someone who knows more than I do needs to check properly.

vitamin C (ascorbic acid in water) makes me feel quite cystitisy but it goes away, and more than half a teaspoon makes me very ‘loose’ 🌱
