Health anxiety on overload

Hi allI posted a while ago my runny twitchy eye. It's stopped running but I still have the twitching sensation when I try to sleep at night, I don't have it any other time of day, unless I close my eyes!

So I also had a twitch on my arm but that's gone now.

Sorry for the long message but I now think I have motor neurone as I checked on the NHS and it said twitching muscles, weakness of grip (which I have but thoughts it was arthritis), a weak ankle (which I have) and if a relative had frontal temporal lobal issues, which my mum had.

So I'm now feeling sick with anxiety because my husband's friend had this and he said it was horrific.

Am I overthinking all of this? It should I go to my GP which I'm scared to do?

Definitely go to your GP Diamond61, as I’m sure they will arrange any tests if they suspect that your symptoms may be neurological. All you are doing is worrying more and more and I’m sure that makes symptoms such as twitching worse (I’ve been there!) High anxiety is awful. Having my thyroid medication and key vitamins optimal has really helped me, along with journaling (positive affirmations).mindfulness and Pilates. What do you enjoy doing? Do try to spend time each day doing things you enjoy to help alleviate the anxiety.

Sending you very best wishes 🦋

Diamond 61 it is easy to overthink symptoms. In the days before computers, my father would not have medical dictionaries in the house because he said they made people ill!

Anxiety comes with thyroid problems. Once you are in an anxious state of mind you find something to fix that anxiety on. I spent many years living like that. Getting my thyroid hormone levels better for me has now stopped all that.

It would therefore be easy to say you are overthinking but none of us on here are medically trained so I would advise you to go to your doctor - it will put your mind at rest.

Have you tried any of the suggestions from your previous thread ?

Several people suggested taking a magnesium supplement. Have you tried that yet?

For muscle twitching or cramp or for eyelid tics there are several things that may reduce the risk of these :

Magnesium/Vitamin D/Iron/Ferritin/Potassium/Sodium

Most of the above need testing before supplementing on a regular basis but occasional use shouldn't be a problem. Magnesium can be supplemented without testing as long as you don't have severe kidney disease or kidney failure. If that is the case then magnesium should only be supplemented with the help and supervision of a doctor.

I very rarely get cramp or muscle twitching these days. But when I do I will take a rather vile concoction in orange juice, of a mix of 1/4 tsp of magnesium citrate powder, a single iron tablet (taken with the orange juice, not in it), 1/4 tsp of potassium bicarbonate (the form of potassium used in low sodium salt), and a pinch of salt. It stops cramp and twitching within a minute or two.

Thank you, yes I have started with my magnesium spray again. It's just with my mum I'm wondering about hereditary factors as it could be linked.
