out of thyroxine!!!

I took my last thyroxine tablet this morning and went to look for another box but have forgotten to order some.

I have been unwell with depression & anxiety so it completely slipped my mind.

I’ve been in touch with my GP online and they said they will do a prescription to be collected on 2nd March. In the meantime I will be without this medication and I’m worried. Is it ok to go a few days without taking it?

Pharmacists have the option to provide you with a few tablets to tide you over - without prescription.

Probably best to go to your usual pharmacy (if that is feasible) and ask nicely. :-)

Take your old pack(s) with you and anything else that will back up your case.

They are, I think, allowed to make a modest charge for this special circumstance but whether they do or not depends on them!

Despite doctors and pharmacists suggesting it is OK to go without, I very strongly disagree. But it does seem to be quite individual - some managing better than others.

hi helvella, thank you for your quick reply. I get my meds by post from Pharmacy 2 u which I have put an order in this morning but it has to be approved by my Gp, picked, posted and sent out to me so I will be without any tabs. Can I go to any pharmacy near me to get a few?

You can try any pharmacy.

But it is not something they HAVE to do. You are relying on their goodwill.

(Maybe don't emphasise Pharmacy 2 u as they probably represent your local pharmacy's competition!)

ok thank you very much 😊

when this has happened to me:

i go to the chemist i usually get my prescription from (so they have my details and repeat prescription history on their computer), and explain what has happened . they ought to be able to 'lend' you a few tablets to cover the gap.

It is not a good idea to 'go without' even for a couple of days .. especially if you already feel rubbish ... it won't kill you or do any permanent harm , but it may leave you feeling unsettled for a couple of weeks until your levels stabilise again .

hi tattybogle, thank you for your reply. I use pharmacy 2 u for all my meds so they come in the post. Could I go to any pharmacy near me to get some do you think?

i have done that once with success when i was stuck working away from home for longer than expected... they might be nice enough to oblige if you ask ... take your empty packet with you and some photo I.D etc .. you may have to try more than one local chemist because they would be within their rights to say no . (try to look like someone who needs levo rather than a drug dealer and you should be OK)
