I had a lump appear very quickly. An ultrasound shows it's a cyst. Consultant suggested it'll need to come out eventually as it's large (at least 5x5x5cm). I am reluctant because it's not causing any issues and am worried a semithyroidectomy would cause more trouble than it's worth. I have a biopsy this week and then will discuss options. What's wrong with wait and watch approach?

I guess you first need to find out what sort of cyst it is. The larger the cyst, the higher the risk of torsion which would be an emergency if it were to happen; that is why they would encourage you to have it removed as it gets bigger. Also it's easier to remove a cyst by laparoscopy when smaller, so you don't want to wait too long either.
TSfeather0,
Welcome to our forum,
There is no info in your bio so we do not know if you suffer from hypothyroidsm or other thyrodi issues.
Elderflower2016 has offered good advice. From the Hashimotos perspective, I would add if you are still in the throws of lots of thyroid activity, cysts are common along with nodules and swellings called goitres. As follicular cells are destroyed, the thyroid gland tries to make more hormone and a jelly substance called colloid results that may cause cysts. They is usually investigated primarily by fine needle aspiration and most are benign so can be left untreated to eventually disappear along with the gland.
