Advice switching doseage time

Hi thinking about changing the time I take my levo from when I wake to before I go to bed.

Just wondering if there is a proper way to do this or how any of you would do this?

Thanks

Levothyroxine is a storage hormone

You can take dose as per normal in morning and take next dose at bedtime same day

Alternatively if you prefer

If you normally take at say 7am

Next day take at 3am- 4am

Next day take at bedtime

Retest thyroid levels 8-10 weeks later

When you normally take levothyroxine at bedtime/in night ...adjust timings as follows prior to blood test

If testing Monday morning, delay Saturday evening dose levothyroxine until Sunday morning. Delay Sunday evening dose levothyroxine until after blood test on Monday morning. Take Monday evening dose levothyroxine as per normal

Previous post showed you were under medicated

Have you had dose increase to 175mcg daily

or could compromise at 167.5mcg daily

No not yet. I’ve sent a letter to my Dr explaining what I feel needs to be tested and how I feel about the situation and have finally got an appointment for 02/03. Probably only a phone call so fingers crossed.

Request increase to 175mcg …….if you get complete refusal on increase to 175mcg ….insist on 167.5mcg daily

Even if get 175mcg daily…initially only increase to 167.5mcg …….retest again after 6-10 weeks

i would eg:

1) take half the dose on wednesday morning ,

take the other half in wednesday bedtime .

2)Then take nothing thursday morning .

take the full dose thursday bedtime.

( if you wanted to you could stick at 1) for a week to allow the body to get used to the switch gradually)

Whatever way you do it, realistically , you can expect to feel a bit 'odd' for a week or so while the body adapts ... day one /two might feel undermedicated , sleep pattern may be different for first few days / week or so/.... waking up at odd times / dreams if you don't normally etc , but don't freak , allow at least 6 weeks for any change to settle before making your mind up about it .. and retest bloods at some point after that , as it may well change the level of T4 you absorb from levo .

I would just skip the next morning dose then start taking it again that evening

We are all different so our bodies may respond differently too

I'm all for making life as uncomplicated as possible....your body will catch up so long as your dose is right for you.

Just a thought I usually take my metformin and statin at bed time should I take these separately or will it be ok to take them with my levo?

no absolutely not ……Levothyroxine must ALWAYS be taken on its own

No other medications or supplements within 2 hours minimum

And at least 3 hours after dinner

And only water for at least an hour before bedtime levothyroxine

Magnesium at least 4 hours before levothyroxine

Three hours after dinner? Everyone else says 2 hours after food. Stretching to 3 hours is starting to get unmanageable for many people. If this person goes to bed at 11pm, she has to have finished eating by 8pm. Most of us don't get home from work much before 7pm so there's no time to cook. I think that's excessive. 2 hours is hard enough.

Depends on size of dinner

If it’s large it should be over 2 hours

Well lucky for me I’ve usually finished eating by 6 at the latest. I’m gonna set a reminder to take my metformin and statin at 6 pm so that I get in the habit before switching to taking my levo at night.
