Hi. You might find it interesting to read my last few Posts? MercuryPharma features heavily as it was difficult for me to get 100mcg.

Mercury Pharma also boxed as Eltroxin.

Both often listed by company name on pharmacy database - Advanz

Try small independent pharmacies often more helpful

If still can’t find any

hi

I have also had trouble over the last 6 months. I now ask for 25 mcg and just take 3 of them each day.

When I contacted Advanz Pharma many months ago, I was assured there were no issues. They had stock and it was available for distribution.

But the issues of patients failing to getting hold of their levothyroxine products continued from then until now.

Afraid I lost faith in what I was being told. Nonetheless, I do suggest individuals contact Advanz and ask.

There are issues with supply of liquid levothyroxine also in all brands and strengths. My medication manager at my GP surgery said she had over 100 patients on her list unable to get their normal medications and was having a time of it trying to swap drugs for them. She said it was mainly thyroid and diabetes medications and the major issue causing it is Brexit. I eventually found my liquid levothyroxine by phoning hospital pharmacies and got some stock luckily transferred to a community pharmacy but it did take a lot of messing about and calls. Not sure where it’ll all end or if this poor stock issue will continue to get worse or be resolved.

I used to have problems getting Mercury Pharma levo but once I had phoned Advanz and got the ok for them having no supply issues Boots got them in for me.

I got the name of the person at Advanz giving me the info that it was definitely available and got the pharmacist to phone them. This was a couple of years ago and since I took Boots to task saying they couldn’t get it there’s been no supply issues.

I still go in a cold sweat when I go to collect my prescription but fingers crossed so far so good. It’s only after taking advice on here that I have a good regular supply so thanks again to Helvella 😃😃😃

I use a small independent pharmacy.

They have at least a dozen customers like me who can only use Mercury Pharma

The pharmacy undertakes to always have Mercury Pharma in stock……so far …I have had no issues

I get an annual prescription sent electronically to them ….and go every 2 months to pick up …..it’s 10 miles away from home

Boots or Lloyds in my home town repeatedly refused to supply Mercury Pharma despite it being specified on my prescription

Spoke to my usual pharmacist today he said problem is huge warehouse not enough staff to check and retrieve specific brands so just have to accept what they send him! He suggested I contact G. P. and request eltroxin as it is same as mercury Pharma and he can provide that. He said I would have to be assessed by resident pharmacist in surgery first. Didn't realise there was resident pharmacist no-one has mentioned this to me before. Not really sure what to do for best.

Nikkisnow, 'He said I would have to be assessed by resident pharmacist in surgery first.'

Assessed for what? Do you know? If not, maybe go with this suggestion and see what happens?

Nikkisnow, I spoke to the pharmacist at my local medical centre, explaining the difficulties I was having with getting MPharma 100mcg, and the 5x25mcg MPharma, the GP and I had settled on to make up the 125mcg, not suiting me at all. He agreed to amend my prescription to state 100mcg MercuryPharma/Advanz/Eltroxin only ( I don't need the added 25mcg as I have plenty from previous prescriptions of 5 x 25mcg). Before he did this I checked with my local Boots and the other local pharmacy that they were able to get Eltroxin 100mcg. Hoping you are as successful.

Hi, Latest update. I contacted my g.p. and explained my pharmacist recommended I get Eltroxin stated on my prescription due to my ongoing problems with side effects from other brands as he cannot obtain mercury pharma for me any more. He is however able to get the Eltroxin brand. My g.p, replied they do not normally put specific brands on prescription as this can lead to supply shortages, he said he would speak to prescribing authority and let me know either way. I am pleased to say he has now stipulated on my prescription that I receive Eltroxin only. So great result, thanks for your advice.
