Premature birth linked to hypothyroidism in later life

I'm sure this is probably well known on here but I have just googled to see if there is a linked between UAT and being born prematurely... Well, what do you know!

nature.com/articles/nrendo....

Lots of articles but this was of particular interest to me as I was born at 29weeks and 6days.

Preterm birth, especially that occuring very early (gestation <32 weeks), was associated with an increased risk of medically treated hypothyroidism in young adulthood, independent of fetal growth and other potential confounders.

Slowly but surely more pieces of the puzzle fall into place!

....and what is categorised as hypothyroidism ?? You may go untreated and unrecognised/ untreated by NHS if youre like me , the moral of this story is Make Sure Your Doctor Always Looks At The T4 numbers. and if low, whatever the tsh may be you should make them address the low t4/ 3 issue . ..read on if interested : This is what Ive learned:Using me as an example , I was not hypothyroid according the NHS when my t4 was below minimum at 8 (12-22) but tsh was "in range" . This is a diagnostic problem for NHS who ignored low t4 and refused prescription

My disjointed tsh/t4 is because of a medical phenomena where the tsh is down regulated , by that I mean that the pituatory or Hypothalamus says to itself " I will never go very high because I don't want to stimulate too much thyroxine " ..ever again. This is probably because once upon a time I was thyrotoxic ,which isa very big HypEr episode .To avoid a repeat the body needs to make sure it never does that again ( so it has a self protection thing , by remembering the bad episode and learning from that .The posh name is called Hysteresis .This is often accompanied by antithyroid antibodies .But in my experience NHS never check for this .

So of you have low t4 do not take NO for an answer from NHS .

Unfortunate similarity in spelling to hysteria.

An excellent description of the 'potential effect of 'hysteresis' after TSH has been very low Tythrop .

it also works to create a time lag the opposite direction (if TSH has been very high)

arTistapple yes an unfortunate similarity ~ put me off learning much about it for a while . but totally unrelated in origin / meaning amva4newphysics.wordpress.c...

Unfortunately this will all be taking place when you are at your most uneducated point of the process. It’s only (very importantly) when you become educated you are ever going to discover it. However we are now educated and armed. Thank you guys.
