Will a mistake in my dose impact NHS blood next week?

Hi

Could I ask your advice please, with a mistake I’ve made with my Levo dosage.

I was diagnosed as having hypo in July My prescription was increased at the end of October from 50mg to 100mg of Levo after my 2nd blood tests.

TSH  18.5 (0.27 - 4.20)

FT4   13.3  (12.0 - 22.0)

I am due for my next blood test on the 18th Jan ahead of a medication review.

However over Xmas and new year I had a chest infection and antibiotics. Feeling much better now.

While I was I’ll I must have taken a I’ve card of tablets out I must have taken my old Levo, I didn’t realise until today that for the last 14 days I have been taking 50mg instead of 100mg.

Corrected this today and used the right box of tablets!!!

Will this impact my bloods next week (I’ve will have had 7 x 100mg dosed by then)?

Getting a blood appt is a nightmare at the Drs so if I rebook it’s likely to be another 3-4 weeks and that may not be an early morning one.

I will of course follow the advice given on here, my current test is at 9am and I will make sure that it’s been 24hrs since last dose.

Yes - it will affect your blood test.

It is usually said to take around six weeks for levels to stabilise after a dose change.

However, as you'd expect the FT4 to possibly be a little low, and TSH a little high, compared with leaving it longer, it might not have a significant impact. That is, it seems less likely they'll look and tell you to reduce - which is the problem so many have. Just be aware that you cannot take these results as evidence.

(The doses are in micrograms, mcg, not milligrams, mg. You probably know this but it does help to get it right when speaking with doctors!)

Yes it will impact test result

But so will having had chest infection and been on antibiotics

You have taken 14 days at 50mcg instead of 100mcg ……that’s 700mcg less that you would have taken

Suggest you rebook for 6 weeks time 9am
