Ranges for b12 in my area are 180 to 2000ngl Stop the thyroid madness say that serum b12 should be in the upper quarter of any range for health of thyroid along with optimum ferritin folate and d3.
I have been concentrating on trying to get all the levels to optimum. I believe that my b12 has been low and this has not been highlighted by drs. Please can anyone advise on b12 levels there seems to so much different thinking. I have read dr Chandrys cases on bt12dorg and The book Could it be b12 very interesting. Thank you

According to an extract from the book, "Could it be B12?" by Sally M. Pacholok:
"We believe that the 'normal' serum B12 threshold needs to be raised from 200 pg/ml to at least 450 pg/ml because deficiencies begin to appear in the cerebrospinal fluid below 550".
"For brain and nervous system health and prevention of disease in older adults, serum B12 levels should be maintained near or above 1000 pg/ml."
pg/ml is the same as ng/L.
Some say the Active B12 is the better test as it measures the free/unbound B12 that is available to the cells whereas the Total B12 test (which you've had) measures both unbound and bound B12 and doesn't differentiate.
when I first had a b12 test I had been taking some British Supplements clean B12 so my number would have been higher than it really was.Dr has no idea about thyroid health when it comes to ferritin etc My last test through medichecks of ferritin was 75.8 D3 80.1 folate was lowish at 6.9 . Active B 12 was at top end but I have had b12 injections privately. I gave my Dr the opportunity to supplement me after having increasing mobility problems However I find drs have really no idea about thyroid health and vitamins etc really shocking . My dr admitted not knowing anything about thyroid. I feel I have been on my own on this learning journey My acupuncturist knows more . What about the ranges in my area what do think ??? Thanks

I don't understand why it's so wide, B12 range in my area is 150-900ng/L.
Doctors are only obliged to treat deficiencies, once back im range we are generally on our own to supplement to optimal levels. Doctors aren't taught much about nutrition and probably don't understand about optimal levels.
I have been taking 37.5 of levothyroxine Couldn’t get on with NDT . I am having a test tomorrow so not taking any B complex at the moment for 7 days Was using better than you b complex spray and will resume again tomorrow after test.I have been trying to up folate foods greens hummus etc I am pleased about my ferritin as it was 35 but eating black pudding fillet steak , dark chocolate Iron spray etc seem to have helped and will continue. Thanks for your advice and as I am now79 feel I have to keep my b12 up. My eldest son is on b12 injections for life . Interesting !! My previous dr said I had fibromyalgia and need to take pain killers for life and to get over it !!!! Shocking as he said that when I actually had hyperparathyroidism Sorry for the rant but I know you understand. Thanks again
