Background ,: Got an NHS thyroid blood test on 6th Dec so stopped Armour .Also Im getting psych consultant help ( private obv) with extreme anxiety so stopping Armour as experiment with him too. Currently 7 days without Armour . After about 3 days I felt unbelievably ill with aches and pains with neck gland pain and sore throat . So I took Beechams powder which contains Asprin plus caffeine . Two doses a day for past 2 days with food to protect stomach . The thing is that ,with Beechams , I'm feeling a whole lot better even though still not tkg Armour . So my question is about any wisdom on this support group relating to asprin and thyroid . I've glanced on net and seen some stuff suggesting links . All info and experience great fully received

This also might be useful to others .

It’s probably not the aspirin.

There’s a weird phenomenon, often written about here, that when you first stop taking thyroid hormone replacement hormone, you can feel a lot better. Until you don’t…

It’s caught many people out in the past.

Seems a long time until 6 December—why have you stopped altogether? It’s only been a fortnight since you posted saying you might increase your dose?

Yes I upped to 2 grains of Armour and have kept it at that for a few weeks ..maybe a month or 6 weeks . At that same time I'm experiencing worse than usual bad anxiety ( not helped by daughter's mental health ) . I am a naturally very anxious person anyway (general anxiety disorder I'm told) so I'm having psych help with my mood involving anti anxiety med changes which is why the NHS GP wants a Thyroid blood test . GP doesn't know about Armour ( I gave up totally on GP for the usual reasons,) but private Psych does know about my Armour NDT and says he will prescribe T4 on NHS whatever GP says if he ,the Psych , agrees with me after the NHS test (saving me lots and lots of £££ on getting Armour from USA ) .So I feel I need to stop the Armour until after the NHS blood test on 6th Dec .This will get a true view of my natural body Thyroid production and stand a chance of not having to pay for T4 . I plan to restart Armour after NHS test even if "Subclinical" .Psych believes in subclinical.Hypothyroidism but GP sticks to strict protocols . Unsurprisingly GP says that NHS will not test for or prescribe T3 ( not a hope in h...ll of that now even though 22 years ago NHS gave me T3 when I was on a "block and supplement" regime for hellish post partum overactive thyroid ) So my game plan is to do my own private Medicheck Thyroid test (TSH +T4+T3) on same day as NHS one to see what the numbers for T3 are . ...That's the plan. Also the the psych thought it might be useful to know if the Armour was making me a bit Hyper which would not help with anxiety .Ho Hum

I am reading through your old posts trying to get a feel of where you are coming from with reference to your much more recent post about mitochondria.

Although this particular post is an old post I want to comment on it. Long before I was diagnosed, I was spending a day in London. Before I got to London I was feeling very ill. I spent a lot of time looking for a bathroom to evacuate and some peace. I was sweating buckets. Feeling hugely bloated. Weak. Nauseous (but not vomiting). Familiar headache. And by this time very anxious. Thinking about this ten years or so later is making me feel ‘off’ right now! Anyway my companion suggested I take some aspirin. I was pretty used to these interludes which normally took me to bed which allowed recovery - a sleep in which I was not asleep but was unable to move. However I could not do this in the middle of London. To be polite I took the aspirin and within hardly any time at all, I felt much better. Not only did I get over the symptoms but I felt much better in myself. This feeling lasts longer than the aspirin is in my body. Like many on the forum I hate to take meds and do so sparingly. But when I feel out of sorts very badly I will take the aspirin (very off brand instructions) and it still works.

My sense is that it temporarily reduces an episode of acute inflammation. The apparent cause of the inflammation can be food, tiredness, whatever but now I know about the hypothyroidism it all fits my ‘brand’ of hypothyroidism.

Thankyou for taking the time on my case .Very very much appreciated . I especially find your account of asprin really interesting One thing to add/ enquire about is that the asprin I've taken is mixed with caffeen ,quite a lot of them seem to be Beechams powders original and Anadin being 2 that spring to mind .As a result of a recent health event I which I found a cup of strong coffee helped a lot ,I am beginning to wonder if Coffee/ caffeine might be of help also, .You won't remember what type of asprin product you took all those years ago, but I'm "in the market" fir any o bservations anyone might have about caffeen with or without asprin. I gather asprin is something called a Cox 2 inhibitor which is something special with inflamation .I am beginning to think that inflamation is a Biggie ,with Hashimoto disease which is autoimmune like rheumatism arthritis

Also I gather thst depression and inflamation go hand-in-hand so wonder if A has effe t on that and crossed nlood/ brain barrier . All very interesting to me .

I would wholeheartedly agree with your observation about aspirin and the blood/brain barrier. It’s much more effective for depression than any thing else for me (as well as pain, discomfort etc etc) I have found other people who feel this too. People who ‘use’ much stronger painkillers. However I try to keep it all to a minimum. Unlike your observation about caffeine, I can’t handle it, especially in with the aspirin. I can handle it in chocolate!! Not coffee. However the reason manufacturers put it in with aspirin is to accelerate the effects.

I am still reading about adrenal stuff. I am comparing the papers you recently highlighted to everything adrenal and mitochondria. It’s a lot of work but I feel I must explore it before considering my next step. You have been a lot of places in your journey. I have not but it’s still been a trial. It’s not an easy journey and I have been trying to keep it simple but there is just so much info out there.
