Can I increase with a small amount of Thyroid med, whilst increasing my adrenals .

I would like to increase my thyroid meds whilst I’m currently increasing the Adrenals.?…But I thought it was best to only increase one of those at a time ?

(I would really like Greygoose or Humanbean to see this question if possible? )

As you both commented on my post last week about BP and recommended increasing Thyroid meds, as the reason for the night time BP is most often linked to hypothyroidism ?

But anyone with experience in this matter would be helpful ?

My Adrenals and my Thyroid are both low with low results :-

Thyroid:- TSH 0.01 (0.27-4.20)…..T4. 14.4. (12.0-22.0)…..T3. 4.7. (3.1-6.8).

Adrenal - AM 8.6. (7.0-30-0)….NOON 2.5. (2.1-14.0)….EVE 4.1 (1.5-8.0)….NIGHT. 1.7(0.33-7.0)

(The figures in brackets are reference ranges not optimal range)

Thank you .

So, what are you doing to increase your cortisol? Often, cortisol rises as FT3 rises. But, I think humanbean knows more about it than I do. :)

thank you Greygoose for coming back to me on this subject

The reason I had to increase my cortisol by increasing my adrenals , was because my Cortisol result after a Saliva test was very low! . In particular the AM. It had gone down from:-Cortisol AM 14. To Cortisol AM 8.6. Quite a difference.

I had been wondering why my adrenal medication wasn’t going up , at each Saliva test. In fact my Doc had suggested I take a very very small amount of HC (1%) for a short period of time. So I gave the HC a go., and when I finally came off the HC the Cortisol had come down, not up !!!!!

I just assumed the increasing of the adrenals would be quicker. In fact I think my raised heart beat at night time now may well be my answer.

So I am going to drop back a bit now, and try to increase my Armour……… your call has made me do some thinking.

Thank you very, very much. Greygoose !

What adrenal medication where you taking? Sorry, but a lot of questions here...

How much HC were you taking? How did you take it? And for how long. I took HC for over two years before my adrenals responded. It's not a quick fix. Especially not if you've been hypo for a long time, and your adrenals have been taking up the slack.

I was and still am taking Nutri Adrenal for 4 years at 500 mg. Then after I got the recent (Oct) Regenerous results, I added another 75mg of Nutri Adrenal

On the 6thNov I thought I’d try and use some Thorne Research caps, to take in the afternoons, so started with 1/2 a 50mg capsule of the Thorne , Increasing slowly to a 50mg capsule. Not long really, but it’s in that period of time that I’ve started getting the faster heart beat. Which I’m now going to drop back again.

I took 8ml of Hydrocortisone cream, put on a different part of the skin every day in a sort of rota. I did my first Saliva test after approx 5 months since starting.

It was a horrible shock, as my results were way off the chart, So it was then a case of slowly coming back down again, and off completely. I wish I’d never done it, especially as I’d lost the ground I’d gained in my previous years of the AM Cortisol ……a fellow HU member (who’d had a similar chart result to myself) wished we known in advance how well our adrenals would work !! In all I was about a year on HC, what I termed to myself “as a waste of a year”

Ah, I have no experience of the HC cream. I took the tablets. But, at a guess, I would say the cream just didn't contain enough HC.

How's your B12? Adrenals need good levels of B12, as well as the other B vits. And, plenty of salt. Also, protein early morning. And, of course, plenty of rest.

well you could be right there , with the HC cream, but why therefore would my cortisol results shoot up the graph and so quickly ? Since increasing my adrenals I can feel some improvement, but I want to start increasing my Armour as soon is possible. So I need to steady the adrenal level ! I’m dropping the Thorne Cortex, right away. I’ve only been on the 50mg for 10 days, and I know that is responsible for the fast heart rate.

Should I start to raise the thyroid fairly soon? It’s so badly needed. The lowering of the thyroid was also a victim of the HC.

Yes I do always have a good B12 result. Always above the reference range, even with the stopping of the supplement before blood draw. And I have protein at every meal. I don’t feel normal until I’ve had some bacon and egg, or Serrano ham on Gluten free toast, and I have Scandinavian protein bars at mid morning.

The salt I have is Sarah Myhill’s Sunshine Salt. I swear that keeps all my minerals at a good level. Having plenty of REST, could be better, but I always meditate on my bed for 1/2hr in the afternoons. It does make a difference !

Thanks again Greygoose. You have been such a reassurance and comfort to me……as with low adrenals and low thyroid, life has been so hard and lonely. I used to have an HU friend, but she dropped me when I had the issues with the HC, as she was the person who recommended it to me. I do miss a friend, and I have never blamed her for the encouraging of the HC, - after all, we are all different, and the decision to try the HC had to be mine !!!!
