Biotin/B Complex or any supplement containing biotin for 3-7 days before the test. 3-4 days for the small amount in a B Complex (eg 500mcg) and 7 days for the large amount in hair/nail or stand alone supplements (eg 5mg or 10mg).Leaving a B Complex off for longer will give a lower than normal folate level.
In that case you need an accurate measure. The equipment doesn't seem to measure higher than 150 so you really have no idea of your level. Maybe ask GP to test, that woud be a Total B12 test rather than the Active B12 test that Medichecks does as the standard GP test is Total B12.
I think they say that you have to be off all B12 supplements for 4 months to get a true picture of B12 status, so can't tell anything from that result. Stopping supplementing for 2 weeks was probably too much time, I think just a day to 48hrs is about right for what it looks like in your blood so may have been a false low for folate? Your ferritin is good though. Maybe D3 could be a bit higher.
So if all that is probably OK then you mainly need to get your FT3 level up. Where was it at at last test?
Thanks so much for that input 😊 I was not very regular at supplementing before the test so I just stopped all the ad hoc supps a couple weeks before to get a blank slate picture. My last test on 1 grain was:
Tsh: 10
T4: 8 (10-22)
T3: 4.1 (3.6-6.6)
I know I am really hypo, but I am extremely sensitive to dose raises so I have to go as slowly as my body allows 🙄
If you re do your vitamin levels just stop the B Complex 4 days before and keep going with a separate folate supplement until the day before the test. I have found that I need more folate than what's in a B complex and have done that gradually over a few months. Most people feel better when their folate is at 20.
I've seen in a B12 group that some people only recover with B12 injections, as for whatever reason taking tablets or sublingual sprays don't have the same effect. Probably a last resort though as you have a fair way to go with NDT increases.
Yes you're definitely hypo and no wonder you have apathy! There's every reason to be positive that higher doses of NDT will help you.
You should mention this over-range result to your GP and ask for further investigation. A high B12 reading can indicate possible liver or blood disorders which need to be ruled out. Obviously take no iron or vitamin B group supplements in the meantime.
Note that there is a relationship between B12 and folate. The body needs adequate folate in order to make use of the B12 it has. Your folate is low, so perhaps your B12 is building up unused - although honestly, I don't know if such a build up can actually happen.
Regarding the need for sufficient folate for B12 to work properly...
If your folate level doesn't rise adequately you could take an additional methylfolate supplement. The dose would depend on how close you are to optimal.
Personally I aim for a level of folate of about 15 - 20 mcg/L. Others may feel best at higher or lower levels. I find that my folate levels fluctuate a lot, so keeping it optimal is difficult.

You might want to wait to supplement B vitamins until you've spoken to your GP about your high B12. Bear in mind that UK doctors will always prescribe folic acid when folate is low, rather than methylfolate, because their guidelines tell them to. Folic acid is much cheaper than methylfolate, naturally.
Oh, and your GP will probably tell you that your folate level is fine because it is in range.
I'd be interested in knowing what they say about your high B12. If the GP retests your B12 it will be with a Serum B12 test, it won't be Active B12 like your Medichecks result.
3000iu. I know my levels are so low considering it’s just been the summer 😔 I am supplementing, but then I also follow the principles of Ray Peat & Morley Robbins who are very anti-Vit D supplement, it’s hard to know what to do for the best
Here's my 2 cents, you can take or leave it. If you're following a protocol that hasnt helped increase your nutrient levels I think it's time to switch it up. You have nothing to lose and the upside is if you start feeling better then it's a win win. I'll share a bit of my story.
My levels were around 40 and the the range began at 70 something. I begged my doctor to put me on prescription D3 at 10,000 IU taken 5 days a week. It took me around 4 to 6 months ( dont recall exact) to get my level on range in the 70s. I cant explain it but I swear to God Almighty that I felt a difference even before my doc shared my results with me. At the appointment she told me that she would stop prescribing it since my levels were in range now albeit it wa on the low end. I burst into tears and begged her to keep prescribing it for me. She agreed but at a reduction, so only 10,000iu taken twice a week. My levels hovered around 77 to 100 for the next year. The range end at 250.
I decided to take my health in my own hands and purchased a d3 supplement that had 5000 iu and took 2 of them. I purchased a d3/k2 supplement and magnesium and my levels slowly improved and I feel much better. I'll re-edit and share a pic of my levels last time I checked.
wow! That’s incredible!!! I’m so pleased for you. I will try increasing my levels and see if anything changes for me, they’re so low I don’t think increasing my doses will harm me. X
