hi all, just looking for some advice really. Starting in June I started feeling funny, racing heart for no apparent reason like I was stuck in fight/flight , fatigue, chest pains,d,izziness, pins and needles in hands and feet, brain fog and angry all the time.I've visited gp around 4 times each time I get referred for ecg which shows up ok, they then prescribed me ppi for acid reflux which haven't helped. I recently had blood test for thyroid and vitamin deficiency my gp called to say results were fine. I am going to request a copy of the results but in the meantime any help would be much appreciated..

welcome to the forum

Are you already on levothyroxine……or not diagnosed at all?

How long have you been taking PPI have you been taking PPI every day?

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested.

Very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least once year minimum

Being within range, is not the same as optimal

You’re legally entitled to copies of your results and ranges

Were your tests done early morning?

About 90% of primary hypothyroidism is autoimmune thyroid disease, usually diagnosed by high thyroid antibodies

Autoimmune thyroid disease with goitre is Hashimoto’s

Autoimmune thyroid disease without goitre is Ord’s thyroiditis.

Both are autoimmune and generally called Hashimoto’s.

Low vitamin levels are extremely common when hypothyroid, especially with autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto’s or Ord’s thyroiditis)

20% of autoimmune thyroid patients never have high thyroid antibodies and ultrasound scan of thyroid can get diagnosis

In U.K. medics hardly ever refer to autoimmune thyroid disease as Hashimoto’s (or Ord’s thyroiditis)

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am and (if on levothyroxine) last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

thank you for the quick response. Sorry I am not diagnosed just at the end of my tether nd my gp is of no use. I have gone from playing football to hardly being able to get up the stairs without feeling dizzy, heart racing and pulse pounding out of neck.

Yes took ppi for 2 months everyday, weaned myself off and been off them for 3 weeks.

 tests were done at 9am

I have ordered one of the tests listed below so hopefully that sheds some light.

thank you so much for the information I will be sure to check back in when my results come back..

Pins and needles can be low B12

Have you had Covid?

Can seem to upset vitamin levels/thyroid in number of people

Are you currently taking any vitamin supplements?

If not don’t start anything until had tests back and see what results show

What’s your diet like

Are you vegetarian or vegan, dairy or gluten free

Any family members who have any autoimmune disease

come back with new post once you get results

no family history of auto immune disease

I was reasonably healthy never I'll work in a manual job, coach kids football, walk the dog for miles at 4.30 am now I struggle to pull my head off the pillow.

thanks for your time means alot

Low thyroid and low vitamin levels often give similar symptoms

Low thyroid levels tends to result in low vitamin levels as well due to low stomach acid

Low stomach acid leads to low nutrient absorption and low vitamin levels as direct result

Low stomach acid gives very similar symptoms to high stomach acid

PPI are to treat high stomach acid

Low B12 symptoms

b12deficiency.info/signs-an...

It’s possible to have symptoms with B12 result still well within range

NHS GP will only test for and treat vitamin deficiencies

B12 range in U.K. is too wide

Interesting that in this research B12 below 400 is considered inadequate

Many of your symptoms sound like a b12 deficiency. Also, PPIs can cause low b12 levels - or exacerbate the issue already at hand.

And if it is be aware that doctors know very little about b12 deficiency/Pernicious Anemia, so educate yourself.
