12 year old daughter has hypothyroidism symptoms

My daughter has lots of symptoms of hypothyroidism and has had 2 TFT blood tests some time ago. The first one was bottom end of normal T4 and the 2nd one was better but still lower end.

Does the same apply with being optimal at the top end of the range even if you are not on medication?

I am going to ask the GP to do another blood test to see how her levels are now. I don’t want to put her on Levothyroxine, but as I have Hashimotos hypothyroidism I do wonder if she has it too.

She needs full thyroid testing including thyroid antibodies and vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

No, not if what generally applies to adults (which the information shared here generallyis) also applies to children.

A normal healthy person with no thyroid problem will generally have TSH no higher than 2, often around 1, with FT4 around mid-range-ish. Obviously not set in stone as we are all different.

My adult son has had two thyroid function tests within the last two years as part of a general bundle of tests due to breathlessness. His TSH has been 1.96 and 0.87 (he had definitely eaten before the second one) and FT4 was 11.6 and 10.8 (range 7-17 both times) so 46% amd 38% and he has no hypothyroid symptoms
