Hypothyroidism worse after Covid

I tested positive for Covid in Jul and in Aug I started to have worse symptoms relating to hypo. I am a competitive athlete but now I am lucky if I can walk to the bathroom due to fatigue and weakness. Also having sever abdominal pain and nausea. I spent 7 days in the hospital and unfortunately was not diagnosis. My numbers all look ok but my Endcrino believes this is related to Covid. Has anyone experiencing the same after Covid?

Thanks

KD714, 'My numbers all look ok '

Sometimes, the numbers that doctors think are 'ok', are actually not at all ok for the individual concerned.

If you can post those 'numbers' here, members will be better able to discuss your issues with you.

Hi. I thought my hypo worse after Covid recently but the GP had also reduced my levo dose a month or so before getting Covid so I couldn't be sure why I'm feeling as I do. I've slightly increased my dose myself and I'm due a blood test soon. Muscle pain around pelvis and groin, and increased hip pain are proving persistent and annoying in particular.

Get FULL thyroid and vitamin testing done 6-8 weeks after Covid

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested.

Very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least once year minimum

About 90% of primary hypothyroidism is autoimmune thyroid disease, usually diagnosed by high thyroid antibodies

Autoimmune thyroid disease with goitre is Hashimoto’s

Autoimmune thyroid disease without goitre is Ord’s thyroiditis.

Both are autoimmune and generally called Hashimoto’s.

Low vitamin levels are extremely common when hypothyroid, especially with autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto’s or Ord’s thyroiditis)

20% of autoimmune thyroid patients never have high thyroid antibodies and ultrasound scan of thyroid can get diagnosis

In U.K. medics hardly ever refer to autoimmune thyroid disease as Hashimoto’s (or Ord’s thyroiditis)

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins
