Important word meaning in using thyroid results

In our group we discuss a lot about ergodic or non-ergodic situations relating to thyroid action. What does this mean? Here is an example.

What is an ergodicity example?

In an ergodic scenario, the average outcome of the group is the same as the average outcome of the individual over time. An example of an ergodic systems would be the outcomes of a coin toss (heads/tails). If 100 people flip a coin once or 1 person flips a coin 100 times, you get the same outcome.

Now, because each individual in health has their own limited range of hormone levels (TSH, FT4 or FT3) suitable for them alone, it is impossible for an individual to mimic the groups' experience over time. This is then a non-ergodic case. So, extrapolating results from the group to the individual is not valid in this case. You cannot diagnose the individual by the results of the mass.

Thank you for this, diogenes, being applicable to thyroid patients and beyond. Time for doctors to be appropriately 'lectured' ;-) in such matters, instead of wasting so much time resources and the lives of patients... doomed to ludicrous, fatally flawed, population ranges.

My wonderful Prof, - Physicist first - chose to become Prof. of Psychology [> strongly intimating that some aspects of psychology seem more akin to 'hobbies' ;-) - love that guy!]. He switched due to his fascination in individual human differences. Not only did he teach, those sufficiently interested, every conceivable aspect of that which took him down this route, but also aspects of Q M as it relates to measurement. To this day, I am still delighted!

I look at it this way, but no one dare say [as one might anticipate] ANYthing to them... or else!

Mumpsimus (circa 16th C),

"A traditional custom or idea adhered to although shown to be unreasonable."

"A person who obstinately adheres to old customs or ideas in spite of evidence that they are wrong or unreasonable." [not into 'wrongs', as such, yet always glaring exceptions. 🔍🦕]

love it! 🤣

Mumpsimus (circa 16th C),

That is just brilliant- now I need to weave it into my vocabulary 😉👍

Ergodic and non-ergodic 🤔 to be in context - hmmm that may take a good deal longer, but it so helps to know at least what it means thank you diogenes

😊👍

Why are so many endocrinologist coin tossing mumpsimuses?
